Hello! My mum (58) has inoperable stage IV ovarian cancer. This has been the case since she was diagnosed (they thought a hysterectomy was possible but it had spread). She is now platinum resistant has recurring ascites.
Currently she is on Caelyx and having a terrible time. She nearly faints, sots all day, has bed sores, gets breathless, barely eats, vomits multiple times daily and as result is losing weight.
She has obtained more steroids and has only done one round of Caelyx…her second round is on Tuesday (2 days away). Are there any alternatives to Caelyx? Anything else she can try? She feels defeated and like its the last hope. She also believes it just needs time to kick in.
She has also been added to the palliative care community. Anything we should try? And advice? Any miracle drugs?
Thankyou

Hello, I am really sorry to hear that your Mum is having such a really tough time. I don’t have any answers but can only tell you my own experience. I was HGS stage 3, peritoneal. I had a 1st recurrence Summer 22. I started carbo/caelyx in August. 6 rounds later my CA125 was 6. I know I was very lucky not to have severe side effects. Sending hugs and hoping 🙏for better. Xx
I’m so sorry that your mum is in this situation and imagine it can’t be easy for you either.
No suggestions about cancer treatments but it sounds like your mum has several issues that need addressing. Are her team aware of her symptoms, they should be able to help with these whilst she is waiting for input from the palliative team.
Is someone attending to her pressure sores…district nurse or practice nurse?
Hi. I’m so sorry your mum is having a bad time of it. Is she being given all possible anti emetic drugs? They might be able to try a different chemo drug. The palliative care people should be able to help with the nausea. You need to be a squeaky wheel! I hope they can make her comfortable. Xx
I'm afraid I have nothing constructive to add other than to say I'm so sorry for your mom's pain and suffering. I really hope she finds some comfort in any way she can soon.
