Side effects three weeks after Caelyx

Hi my wife is having Caelyx after her ovarian cancer returned after nine cycles of Carbo/Taxol. She is currently on her second cycle only drinking water and hasn't eaten for three days. When she vomited it was dark green is this part of the side effects of the caelyx? She only had one day with energy and has felt I'll for the rest, she has another cycle next week but she is very weak. Is anyone else experiencing side effects for this long?

Thanks in advance

Hi. I have had quite a bit of caelyx wit good results and yes some hard side effects but all manageable. I don't want to alarm you but NO THAT IS NO NORMAL, your wife has not eaten in 3 days and to vomited like that is not good.

We all react differently to chemo but your wife reaction is server and need attention.

Please take your wife to emergency and if you can get in touch with her oncology team but emergency first.

Hope she is ok let me know.. take care Lorraine xx

If your wife hasn’t eaten for three days , I suspect what she is bringing up is bile - my bowel surgeon told me stomach produces litres of digestive juices etc even if we don’t eat and the build up can make us nauseous especially if our bowels are not functioning properly too - I’d contact whoever you are meant to contact in oncology for advice as she clearly will be dehydrated if she is vomiting as much and may need Iiv fluids x

Hope your wife gets sorted out quickly - good that she has your support xx

I agree with the other ladies - ring your contact in oncology and get her to emergency, she will be getting very dehydrated and harder to treat because it sounds like she won't be able to keep down any anti nausea medication by mouth. I hope she can get on top of those side effects. Best wishes Dawn

I can only concur with what the other ladies have said - get her checked at a and e. I didn’t eat for 4 days after my second chemo and felt terrible. I went to a and e and had a serious problem that I had no idea of - a and e to the rescue!!

Hi I agree - A&E straight away. I went to A&E every month for some side effect or another on Carbo Caylex : it really is quite toxic and they will rehydrate intravenously and also give anti sickness..-and advice for more effective anti sickness! Good luck x

I agree with the others. This does not found normal and I would get into an A&E as soon as you can. Good luck x

Agreed! First, I am so sorry your wife has to start chemo again so quickly. It is so disheartening and scary. I am in the same boat. I am on Caylex (Doxil in the US)/Avastin for my first recurrence after front line after only 4 months remission. I have had one infusion of Caylex, which was about 5 weeks ago now. Subsequent infusions have been delayed because of plunging white counts. I had severe side effects for most of the first 4 weeks. Mouth sores from hell that did not heal were the worst. I could not eat, drink, or talk. It was awful and all of the customary "tricks" did not work. I was mildly nauseous, dizzy, and achy all over. That said I did not vomit. They are monitoring me closely and when chemo restarts will be reducing the dose by 20%. My doctors are intent on finding the right dose "sweet spot" that is right for me. On a positive note, though, my CA 125 dropped by 300 points (from 1600 to around 1300) with just the first dose, so I'm going to muddle through the best I can. They said this would be a "gentler" treatment than carbo/taxol....ha ha right. Keep us posted.
