hey all,

I posted last week about mum requiring a biopsy re. 8cm lump to right ovary with surrounding.

They discussed her again at mdt last week and the interventional radiology department decided it was too risky and she was referred for surgery.

She met with her new consultant this morning as has been referred to a different hospital as they are specialist. The consultant said they won’t biopsy as if the cut into it, it could spread the cancer further. So she’s having total abdominal hysterectomy and they will biopsy after and also biopsy her lymph nodes to check they’re clear.

Given the consultant and doctors strikes next week, they’ve advised her that surgery is unlikely to happen until the end of September 😩

My question is, is it possible for it to spread within that time?

and also, if it is isolated to that right ovary, once it’s removed etc, is it able to reoccur or wil that be the end of it?

thanks

X

A week or so's delay in surgery is unlikely to cause any problems (I had to wait for my consultant to come back from holiday). Unfortunately no-one can predict recurrence, the earlier the stage at diagnosis the less likely a recurrence is, but it's not an exact science (it only takes one cell to escape from the tumour and set up residence, but that's why surgery is usually followed up with chemo). Sending hugs to you both!

I agree with SS - a couple of weeks here and there won't make much difference. I asked about delays to my treatment and they said not to worry. xx
