Another delay : Chemo delayed again for another... - My Ovacome
Another delay
How frustrating, unfortunately, this happens with quite a lot of patients. The chemo wouldn’t be as effective if your bloods aren’t right. I hope that things can go ahead as planned next time. xx
Cazy1010 I get that you are impatient. I remember that feeling, outraged that I was losing yet another week to delays to chemo.
Yes it sucks.
But you can treat it as an unexpected bonus… a little break, time to treat yourself or do something you want to do.
It is what it is, so try to find a way to enjoy it xx
Oh it’s so frustrating! Sorry you are being delayed. Think of something nice to do or watch to distract you! Sending hugs x
It’s so frustrating and happened a couple of times towards the end of my treatment - one of the nurses said something that helped me to feel a little better. She said that if your blood is still not recovered it just shows that the chemo is still working in your body. I don’t know how true it was but it helped my head a bit! xx
Yes, it's frustrating, but usually the delay is not for long. My oncologist reduced my chemo dose after it took a whole cycle for my neutrophils to recover. I was fine after that and I'm still cancer free 17 years later!
This happens to me every time i go for chemo but they repeat my blood test a few hours before chemo is due to start and every time the neutrophils or platelets have increase just enough over the last 24 hours so that chemo can go ahead. i have never missed one cycle.
Hi yes it happened to me, I ended up having last 3 chemos reduced in strength as taking 2 weeks to recover despite also having the filmgrastin injections xx
Hi caz, had my last chemo delayed only by a week as my platlets were so low, Just had my last one and feel so tired, my bloods were still low but at an acceptable level for chemo.
I'm struggling with tiredness this week, worse than ever so if they delay it's for a good reason, you need to be at your strongest to have it
X
thank you xx I know it’s for my own good , just feeling a little low at the moment and like you I’m just so tired. Also battling with trying to get financial help and getting a blue badge for my car I just feel nothing is going right
Hi Cazy.So many helpful comments so far, I remember that feeling of frustration very well as I had 3 delays. Hang in there and enjoy the extra few days.
On the question of Blue Badge applications, mine was sorted by the community Macmillan team at my local hospital - there is a quick referral system (or at least there was, 2 years ago when I got mine). They filled out a form and I had one within days. They may also have a benefits advisor, so I'd give your named nurse a call and see what they can do for you.
Best wishes
Sally
Hello Cazy1010
You mentioned that you are battling with trying to get financial help. The Disability Advice Service (DAS)helped me to complete the application forms for PIP and ESA, neither of these are means tested. As previously mentioned contact Macmillan for confirmation about which help you might be eligible for then contact the DAS.
Wishing you success
Hey caz,Totally understand, felt like that last week, bloody fed up feeling tired all the time, just want to get back to work and have some normality. My partner earns to much so I'm not entitled to any financial support either, it's so frustrating!
Remember to rest in between sessions and eat fresh food only, I eat strawberries snd raspberries every day as they really help with your bloods. You are doing so well, your nearly there so be kind to yourself and be proud of yourself how far you have come x
Hi Cazy, I experienced the delays between each chemo too; my platelets didn’t seem to rise. In The end my oncologist did reduce the dose but even then I had a couple of times after a low count, going to the chemo ward and having further blood tests and waiting for the results. I do think they relaxed a bit and I had chemo even when bloods were lower than they liked.
It’s really frustrating eh? You get yourself mentally prepared and then nothing…
You will get past this and onto the next stage; sending love and hugs, Angela
yes, and it’s very frustrating. Once or twice, they decided to go ahead with my chemo, but I had to wear a Neulasta injectable pack that dispensed med 24 hours later.
Yes From chemo number 4 onwards and eventually skipped number 6 because neutrophils did not recover All very stressful at the time not knowing if getting chemo or not I was clear cell 1C2 or 3 A year out from chemo now
Hi Cazy, yes happened a couple of times to me. I remember having mixed feelings, happy for more "normal" time but worried about the delayed treatment. I got through & I'm still here, so I have to believe that my oncologist knew what he was doing. I'm on maintenance with Avastin now & so grateful for every day it gives me. Just keep reminding yourself how amazing you are. Love & hugs. xxx
