Chemo delay
I always like to think if bloods struggling because of chemo, so is the cancer. Hope delay is short xx
It's never yet happened to me but it must be so very disappointing. I like Yewbarrow's take on it, those cancer cells must definitely be struggling.
Hi Asma, I'm 2 weeks overdue for my 6th and final chemo (first line) because my wbc, neural, baso, lymph are all critically low, I'm scheduled again for next weds when it will be 3 weeks late. It happens a lot very annoying though.
..Yew barrow....My Oncologist said to me on Monday "if this is what your body is doing to those good cells imagine what it's doing to the cancer cells", she said she saw it as a positive and that it shows how sensitive I am to the treatment efficacy wise.

what a lovely reassuring way for your oncologist to say. I'm not due to see mine until Mid July once chemo is over
It will come around quicker than you can imagine, I can't fathom where the last 6-7 months have gone. Stay strong πͺ x
I know how you feel. Its happened to me. In fact my counts got so low I wound up with multiple transfusions in place of chemo and the counts still did not behave. All I can tell you is that eventually they do go up and you will be back in chemo. I missed for 4 straight weeks of what I hoped was my last cycle. But despite seeing a hematologist the buggers eventually went up on their own and yours will too. Hope you rebound faster than I did. In mean time, be cateful with where you go, and what you do. There are some severe side effects depending on what is low- like dizziness or compromised immune system.
Drink fluids and let your body rest during your little break.
Best,
Anne
It's a really powerful feeling isn't it and a difficult one too as it can be quite complex. It is quite common and wish I had been told just how common it is as I would have found that a little reassuring I think.
I was neutropenic from the first. At the second dose, my levels were lower than the cut off but because all others were OK, they went ahead. I was then deferred twice and eventually had the carboplatin amount reduced (was only single agent and so the amount is often increased). I then needed the stronger boosting injections and the reduced amount for the rest of the course. With all of those measures, my neutrophil level remained below the cut off so required a consultant decision to go ahead... I used to think of the neutrophils as sulking!
My point in sharing the experience is to hopefully reassure you that there is lots than can be done. Many women I know have had a week's deferral and then continued the course as planned...
Good luck and I hope you're able to feel that you've some bonus days of feeling better and can find some lovely distractions...
Wishing you hope and strength, Sxx
Pants isn't it. π xxx
Yes been there. It's a pain when you're all geared up for it. Hope thembloods have recovered soon.
