pleurodesis and air travel

Has anyone having a pleurodesis used air travel? What was your experience? I had a Pleurodesis 4 years ago and because of pain when going to higher altitudes, I have avoided anything over 4000 ft. I have also avoided air travel. My Pleurodesis was the result of multiple occurences of a collapsed lung do to blebs (blisters) on that lung. The surgeon did not address very small blisters on the top of the lung so I also worry about a potential leak and how it would be resolved with a Pleurodesis!

Hi blebs, I didn’t have pleurodesis but went into it a bit when it was suggested. I really don’t know how you would fare with a flight but I think you should be able to get some advice from the resp specialist that did the procedure. You want to be fully prepared so see if your oncologist can line that up for you xx

Hi Blebs

I had a pleurodesis in Sept 2021 and I don’t know the answer to your question but I would be very interested to know what recommendations are just in case I want to fly somewhere. I guess you need to talk to your oncologist and respiratory consultant. Good luck. Do post how you get on.

unfortunately, the only answer my Pulmonologist gave was that the Captain could land at the nearest city If I had difficulty!

Hi Blebs,

Well that’s not very helpful from your pulmonologist is it???? We are looking to fly to Portugal in the Autumn and my oncologist just said it was fine. I might have to do some more research.
