Hi Cazy1010

They are right in a way you can self certify but you need longer. My advice ask for an urgent phone appointment today and most on call docs will be able to cope with that. Give the reason as anxiety due to cancer operation. And explain to the gp how this is affecting your mood and ability to get ready for the operation. He may stiln say you need the self cert but you need one for those critical weeks after xx

Good luck

Hi Cazy1010 I was also working at time of my ops and was also advised to self certification for first week and after that I had to contact the Practice to get a further sick line. However when you are having major surgery during the first week of self certification you are simply not well enough to arrange the sick line with the GP in the days post op So I would have another try at explaining that to the Practice asking for a sick line to follow on from the first week. I feel for you as I needed similar sick lines but once you are over the first week of self cert it is easier My GP Practice was very helpful so I was lucky My other thought was Ovacome and MacMillan also give advice on this sort of problem and I think you should phone them too It helps with the stress to have someone giving you advice on the phone I didn't fill in a self cert as such for the first week I just put it in writing to my linemanager who recorded it on work system. Maybe the helplines can clarify what you need to fill in for first week.

Hope it all works out and good luck for the op

I would ask for an urgent telephone appt. Speak to your doctor. Mine e mails mine (when I need one) and then I print it out. Good Luck

Hi Cazy1010

When I had my operation the consultant at the hospital asked if I needed a sick note and signed me off work for 8 weeks.

Hi, like Cazy my Oncologist signed me off. Failing that email yr gp, or go thru the practice Manager or raise a complaint. You are going through enough without having to worry about money. You could always do what I did, put a bad review on yr drs website, explain it’s the receptionist. Good luck and I hope all goes well with your surgery x

Hello Cazy

My consultant at the hospital gave me the sick note. Just ask for it and they can provide it. I hope everything goes well with your surgery.

I gave the same issues with my doctors surgery They never get my sick note right I have to request it a least 3 or 4 times before them actioning my request. My workplace was ok with me sending them late, however DWP is another story.

Take care

So sorry you are experiencing this, it sounds like you'll be off more than a week, so they're just postponing what is needed. My first sick note was from the hospital after my biopsy. All others were from Oncologist who wrote them for months at a time to reduce the stress, including one extending my return to work because my Mum died. Maybe ask your Oncologist's Secretary, they may be a bit more empathetic than your GP surgery?

I also got my certificate from the surgeon/ward when I was discharged x

HiYou can self certify for the first 7 days...you do not require a sick note for these first 7 days.

My hospital sent me home with a sick note for a month so please ask before you are discharged. Like you I wanted this all sorted before my op as was just another thing to worry about. So sorry you came across a receptionist that did not have empathy for you. Some doctors surgeries really need to highlight the 'caring ' approach with their receptionist. Hope your op goes well and sending warm hugs x

So sorry to hear this .last thing you need to be dealing with. My macmillan nurse was really good and she even helped me get PIP. I know it's bit late before your op but have you got anyone who could look into this for you? A complaint to your doctors is in order when you feel able. Big hugs and good luck. If I could I'd come and sort your bulldog receptionist out! Not very ladylike but I'm so cross fir you .

Hiya, well this is an added stress you don't need! Do you have a specialist nurse allocated to you when you went to see your oncologist? My nurse was there to answer all the practical questions your don't always think about when facing the doctor. She was able to help and advise with sick notes. Hope that helps. Good luck for the operation, you will be well looked after.
