Sorry ladies but I’m feeling so fed up at the moment and I just need to off load. I’m currently on my 3rd Line Chemo and for the last few months have completely lost my appetite I’ve lost 60lb in weight (luckily I was overweight) and I’m so miserable.

If I do eat anything I end up retching although I rarely bring the food back up over the last 3 days I’ve eaten 2 cinnamon swirls and 3 slices of toast. I can’t eat or drink dairy anymore or hot drinks. I’m sipping a prescribed energy drink along with Lucozade. But I feel so weak and low. Seeing doctor tomorrow for usual check up so I will discuss with her but I just needed to get this off my chest. My husband is great but he just offers to make me something I fancy but he can’t understand I don’t fancy anything.

Sorry rant over thanks for listening. Jan x

Jan,

You are having a really rough time and if ranting helps then do it. Do also push your doctor tomorrow though. I am on cisplatin and gemcitabine at moment. My first round I had awful nausea and headache but they changed my anti nausea meds from ondansetron to akynseo which lasts for 5 days and it has made so much difference to me. What anti nausea meds are you getting at the moment?

|Hi Jan Rant away! Sounds like you are having a really rough time. You are obviously weak and low because of lack of nourishment and the flaming chemo. Definitely speak with your dr about this. You can't carry on like this. What chemo are you on at present, as Louise says it sounds like your antisickness meds need sorting sooner rather than later. Hopefull the dr can sort something tomorrow for you. Kathy xx

I was having a terrible time with first line chemo. Everything tasted so awful, it would make me retch, even If I wasn’t nauseous.

However sorting out the nausea and indigestion is important.

I use Cyclazine, which is really easy on you and you can take one before every meal. I also have an unlimited supply of omeprosole, which helps keep food down. It is for stomach acid, but I find that if I take one before each meal, or even after, and before I go to sleep at night, it really helps.

As for hubby and food suggestions: you need to wrack your brain for items that might work: such as;

Oven fries, cheese and tomato sandwiches, toastier! Pad Thai ,

Cheerios, chocolate pudding, rice pudding, milk shakes, and what saved me: Ramen!

Good luck,

Laura

I have some rather delicious milk shake meal supplements on prescription which I fall back on when I can't face anything else. I also have a lot of retching but am seldom sick.

Hi Scotty, your Onc will hopefully sort you out tomorrow, especially with anti-sickness meds. What about the fruit based nutrition drinks? Fortijuice.

I used to eat tinned fruit, cream crackers with marmite or cheese (thin slices) & water! Oh yes, rice pudding (but you’ve gone off diary).

As Katmal says, something needs to change so you can gain nourishment.

Best of wishes,

Linda xoxo

Hi Jan. That must feel plain awful. I'm sorry you got hit so hard.

Did you have a scan recently or does your oncologist have any idea what causes the inability to keep down food? If it's the chemo, then hopefully your anti-emetic meds can be adjusted to reduce your nausea (or chemo adjusted, if need be). I took 5-day Emend during Carb/Tax chemo which was great.. but I don't think it compares to what your regimen puts you through right now.

Or is something else causing the problem, like a blockage maybe, which could be resolved? Hope your onc can help you today. Maybe bring your husband to carry the discussion if needed.

Sending hugs. Maus

So sorry you’re feeling so awful. I remember we got a small (! They are a pain to wash up the big ones!) blender and whizzed up some protein powder in almond milk with cocoa or avo or banana and fruits etc - worked really well as smoothies were somehow easier? Just a thought... good luck x

The only thing I ate was avocado and prawns with a seafood sauce - strange I know but it seemed to slip down. Hope you feel better soon x x x

I completely lost my appetite during treatment. Everything tasted like cardboard. I barely lived on cottage cheese, scrambled eggs and protein drinks. I lost a lot of weight. The protein drinks worked best. The only problem is, my cat loved them too and could hear me open one a mile away. She always got a capful. Find what works, talk to your Doc. Hugs!

Thank you all for your support I’ve been prescribed steroids to try & kick start my appetite I’m not overly happy about taken them. I’m going to try some of your suggestions especially if I do get my appetite back. But terrible morning at clinic I got the time wrong and had to wait 2 hrs for my proper appointment time I was so weak & tired I just wanted to lay down & then saw a relief doctor who doesn’t know my history he was pleasant enough but not MY doctor if you understand me? In all of the 18mths I’ve been going to clinic today was the first time I actually felt like I had cancer and I didn’t like it. So I’m determined to get my mojo back & with the support you give me I will xxx

Hi Jan , Sorry love you are having a hard time I fully understand I've lost 14 kg In the last couple of month and have been trying to eat and get my strength up.

My Gp has me on a low dose of steroids 5mg and I've been taking them now for 3 weeks on a day and I think it has helped, I still have a hard time eating meals but take ice cream, yogurt, juices make in the blander and also drink supplements.some night I can eat a small meal.

It's important you get it under control hope your doctor can help, keep as up to date ..Take care Lorraine xx
