Good afternoon,

We have been asked to re-share some information with you about the Gynaecology Exercise and Mindfulness Study (GEMS). This is a feasibility trial evaluating the effectiveness of mindfulness compared to mindfulness and exercise on fatigue in gynaecology cancer.

This study is for those who have been previously treated for gynaecology cancer and are still experiencing fatigue.

The study will last for 8 weeks in total. It will all take place on a mobile application that you will be able to download through an online web page that will be sent to you in a link. You will be asked to access this mobile application regularly at a time that suits you. To establish whether there is any difference in effect on fatigue we will compare a mindfulness group (group A) with a mindfulness and exercise group (group B). To do this you will be randomly assigned (by chance) into one of the two groups. This makes sure that each group has a similar mix of people and ensures that the results of the study are not biased for any reason.

All participants will be asked to complete electronic questionnaires, a link for these questionnaires will be e-mailed to you, this will happen at the beginning and end of the programme. This will allow the researchers to compare your initial fatigue, sleep, anxiety, depression and quality of life levels with those at the end and help determine the overall effectiveness of the programme. The assessments will include questionnaires for fatigue, sleep, anxiety, depression and quality of life. These will be available to fill in on line through a link that will be sent to you at the beginning and end of the programme and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

After the programme you will be invited to attend an online group discussion lasting one hour to one and a half hours to establish your overall thoughts on the programme. This is entirely optional but will be an opportunity for you to put forward your opinions as to how the programme could be improved in the future and your opinions of taking part in the exercise or mindfulness activities. The group session will be recorded to allow for analysis at a later date.

If you are interested and would like to know more about this piece of research, please contact Kairen McCloy at 07984843441 or e-mail: McCloy-K2@ulster.ac.uk

Best wishes,

Anna
