Been for a 6 month CT scan and the hospital couldnt do it because my kidney function is not good.Had a really stressful journey to appointment because of dreadful traffic, only just got there in time and then told I couldnt have the scan
Ive had low EGFR for years but its got worse, I dont think my blood pressure and Beta blockers are helping, also PARP. Really upset because what will happen if I cant have CTscans? also worried I might be taken off Niraparib. Nurse said to drink tons of water, I admit Idont drink much water, but if I do Im in the loo all the time ! Googling (I know) it says drinking water wont help. Im really worried now about my treatment. Of course its the weekend so cant speak to anyone at tghe hospital

Take a breath Rosebine2. It’s up to your team to solve this one. I doubt they will take away the Parp because of a lack of scan. It’s more about the blood tests as far as I am aware. Rest up this weekend, be kind to yourself and prepare to make calls on Monday for some advice xx
Yes they said the contrast wouldnt be expelled and could cause kidney failure, scary. the reading was only 34 ! Should be at least 75 for my age. Another thing to worry about, Im so tired of it all, the backwards and forwards to hospital, the whole sword hanging over my head thing, the constant having to phone round trying to get appointments sorted and answers .
Bless you,it is all so very stressful,I too have to chase my hospital for answers or appointments etc unfortunately I think it is the same right across the country atm,it’s something we shouldn’t have to deal with on top of everything else and does really annoy me.
But this is only a blip and you will get through it.I take co enzyme q10 (300mg daily) R alpha lipoic acid, nettle tea to help support my organs, perhaps worth a try x
Try talking to Macmillan or Ovacome today to see if they can throw some light on your concerns. We absolutely understand how wearing this whole thing can be. Emotional support at this time would be a good thing as well as some answers to all the what ifs worrying you. Try to get both. You’ve made the first step by posting your frustration and concerns. Now take the next two. Hoping the answers will be much better than you fear. Emma x
very stressful for you but I agree with the other's , nothing will be sorted today so shelf it and ring tomorrow 😉 enjoy your Sunday don't let this take today
Dear Rosebine2, I have all my ct scans without contrast due to a probable allergy to the contrast. The images are good and they can see what’s happening.
like Educating Rita above, I haven't had contrast dye with my CT scans for at least 3 years because of an intolerance. They can't see quite so clearly without the dye, but a good radiologist can see 99% at least, it's ridiculous of them to simply say you can't have a CT. Contact your oncology team and get them to reorganise, this time without contrast, although to be fair whenever I go for a scan it still says "with contrast" on the form and I have to spend some minutes saying no to the contrast and why...
Hi. I feel your frustration and worry. The build up to getting a scan usually involves a lot of anxiety and then hassling the traffic and then being told no scan plus another worrying medical concern—it’s all too much. As others have said you can have CTs without contrast. But you will need to address the kidney concern. Maybe they can lower the dose of Niraparib or you can take a two week break. And of course it’s the weekend so you have to wait til Monday. Sending hugs. Xx
This has happened to me several times before. My creatine level (kidney function) was low, so they couldn't inject the contrast that is needed to conduct the CT-Scan test. I was always told to go home and drink lots of water to boost my kidney function, and this worked.
I'd complain to PALS. Letting you travel all that way was unnecessary and stressful for you, and they should have called before you set out, as I assume they already had the renal function results.
They can (as others have said) do scans without contrast. I haven’t had contrast for over 12 years due to allergic reaction. I also now only have annual scans as they rely on blood work. I hope you get things sorted . Xx
Hoping you have contact with your clinical team today and reassurance that your treatment will go ahead without the need for a CT with Contrast. Hugs xx On a lighter note aren't we always being told not to have too many CT Scans? This can surely work in reverse too 🙃
I am sorry to hear of your stressful journey and upsetting experience with your cancelled CT scan.
