I'm in Hospital for a bowel adhesion/ bowel blockage. Has anyone else had this? Apparently quite common for people who have had abdominal surgery. I had HGS OC / huge surgery in August 2021 (followed by the usual chemo). The bowel blockage came right out of nowhere a few days ago. An A & E situation. Incredibly painful. I'm interested in hearing how any of you out there manage bowel adhesions after OC Surgery.

Bowel adhesion blockage
Yes, I had this. I was admitted to hospital vomiting faeces, such was the build up. They tried a few days nil by mouth in the hope that it would clear, and when it didn't it was another op!
That was five years ago, and my bowels have been fine since.

I had two before surgery. Both were resolved with a NG tube and no eating for about a week. The best advice is get up every hour that you are awake and walk for 5-10 minutes. When you start feeling hungry that’s a great sign that it’s clearing up.
Mum had this a month after finishing chemo and huge surgery for OC. They tried to clear blockage naturally, and she had a PICC line for feeding. It did not clear so she had keyhole surgery, and recovered quite quickly after that.Wishing you a speedy recovery x
Yes had to have another operation first time but second time solved by tube down throat. Am now on a low fibre diet which does help although I call it a very unhealthy diet. Good luck
Hello.Yes dear reading to you message its like reading my own story )) I had debulk in March 21 , then 6 chemos finished last August. Then Niraparib for 2 month. And then end of November same problem like yours come out of nowhere in the evening. Went to A&E twice with excruciating non stop pains. A&E did not help in the slightest sending me home saying " Your bloods is fine" ! I begged them to do CT scan but they simply refused. So after go home second time still rolling in pain i called hot line and said " I won't go to AE again ! Then they booked me into RM. In Marsden they discovered upper intestinal adhesion blockage. They put me on nil by mouth for 7 days , tube and drained yucky stuff out of my stomach which stopped the pain and vomiting. Doctors said its not life threatening and they wanted to avoid to operated it if the can with nil by mouth , tube and drips. After nearly 2 weeks I wend home feeling as new penny )) And dietitian advised me to stay on low fiber low residue diet for quite a while . So i did but find what to eat on low fiber wasn't easy ))) You be OK be sure .
The timing here could not have been better. Over the weekend I had upper abdominal pain and was vomiting. After a catscan I was told that I had a bowel blockage. They inserted the ng tube for about 15 hours and it did clear. I was told to stay on a liquid diet for 3 days. Have lost weight which is nice, but I am starving. Any suggestions as how to prevent this from happening again would be appreciated. Thank you all!!
I had a bowel blockage about 4 years after surgery. Apparently it can happen again at any time. I had no idea about them. They’re not very nice though are they? X
I was in hosp this past month. They inserted a tube through nose into stomach. On IV. Suctioned out everything. Four days. But it resolved without surgery— try not to have surgery. It’s very very difficult. But it can resolve with this awful process.
Hi Anna, I have had three in my lifetime. Anytime you have abdominal surgery, this can happen. They are miserable for sure. I try and eat sensibly now. I make sure that I chew my meat well before swallowing and not overeat in one setting. I have been fine since January ( was my last bowel obstruction). Hopefully, I don’t have to experience another bout. Wishing you well, Donna
