I'm sitting in a hospital bed having been admitted last night with severe abdo pain & vomiting. I think it will just be like last time - no need for surgery just what my Onc calls 'aggressive laxatives'. You'll never guess what caused this --- baked beans !
Yes, having been on a low fibre diet for 4 months I thought I'd be ok by now to try some good ol' Heinz Baked Beans but it seems not, they have got 'stuck'. Well, that's what I think must have caused it 'cos I'd been passing ok etc.
Anyway, I had to have I/v morphine, so definitely more laxatives on the horizon, but I feel much better.
I'm waiting for something to happen so I thought I'd right to my Teal Sisters. This disease is such a pain, isn't it?
I hope the tea trolley comes soon.

Poor you. Hope the tea trolley does come soon. Baked beans, eh? What a nightmare. I really think I ought to read up about these low residue diets just to be forearmed. I don't seem to have anything really wrong in that department (yet) but I imagine it's harder to learn on the hop.
All the best and hoping your aggressive laxatives work soon.
Oh poo. Sorry about the pun but sounds as if you will get the all clear soon. I do my own bowel cleanse about every 10 days with Oxy Powder and I love that empty feeling after. Hope all goes well. No more baked beans for you missy. xxx
Hi, I've been taking Oxy Powder on and off for many years as I've a tendency towards Candida Albicans now and then so I have to clear out the yeast cells in my gut. As I got older my bowel became a bit more sluggish anyway and then the chemo screwed it right up so I went on to a regular routine. If I'm ok for a couple of weeks then I don't do it, unless I've got Candida symptoms, because the OP isn't cheap. Buy from a reputable seller as there are many copies out there. OP comes in capsule form and I take 6 capsules last thing at night on a completely empty stomach. While I sleep the OP (which is magnesium oxide mostly) mixes with the hydrochloric acid in the stomach to form millions of oxygen bubbles which travel through the system liquidising all the muck it comes in contact with. When you wake up you'll have the feeling that you need to pass wind, but trust me, it's not wind. Why I like OP so much is that there is no pain or cramping before you need to go. You can't really go out anywhere the next day though. Depending how much is in you, you will go between 3 and 5 times during the day. It is safe to do the cleanse for a whole week if you want to make sure everything is out. I tend to do this when I've got the dreaded Candida back. For me, I wouldn't use anything else and all of my family use it too, especially my youngest son who was constipated a few years ago and drank 2 litres of prune juice and spent a very unpleasant and painful night in the loo. Twit. There is a wealth of information on the internet about the product - as well as one or two crazy people who like to put the frighteners on folk - but I wouldn't use anything else. Please ask if there's anything else you want to know. xxxx
Isn't it a pain? I had 6 Laxido sachets, 4 Sodiim Docusate capsules and 2 enemas to get things moving! Can't say I've had Oxypowders though, what are they?
What is Oxy Powder? I have never heard of it. I had an operation for a bowel blockage last November, and would do anything to avoid getting it again. I wasn't given any dietary advice, although I did ask.
LOL - Poo indeed! The first enema didn't work but the 2nd did. I'm home now but I confess I lied about pain level so I'd get discharged. I'm passing but my guts are still complaining loudly!
Oh poor you, hope the 'aggressive laxatives' work soon... who would have thought, baked beans? When I had to go on this low residue diet most of my family and friends couldn't understand the logic of it... why eat 'unhealthy' refined carbs which are anathema to a body let alone one with cancer!
Surely fibre makes the intestine work and open up the bowels? But no, obviously when it gets restricted and bits caught and a block leads to a hospital stay!
However what I have worked out ( and been reading a lot in various articles recently ) it's not so much what you eat but HOW you eat...
So now I am much slower eater eating smaller mouthfuls and , chewing everything into a smooth pulp before swallowing and in between drinking water ( sometimes with wine as well!) to wash it all down, hopefully more smoothly!
Yes, low fibre just seems wrong. I know what you mean about eating slowly and chewing for ages xx
I totally feel for you, it’s the worst pain in the world. A baked potato did me in last summer, not looked at a potato since! I hope all goes well Iris. XxX
Yes, red cabbage would do it, what a downer at Christmas! I'm home now and keeping fingers crossed while guts are gurgling and feel like I've been punched. At least I'm passing - sort of XX
I hope your bowels will sort themselves out soon with medical help. I had a bowel resection and it's disconcerting how quickly our habits get changed. With me, it's not enough water. When I'm home I drink lots, but when I'm doing errands...well, it's just stupidity on my part. I had a colonoscopy last week (all good) and I'm still not back to regular.
Feel better, Iris. That was a bad bout you just had. Hugs.
Yes, we all must remember to drink lots- gin & tonic? Maybe not! I'm home now, not quite normal but at least better. They sent me home with suppositories and an enema just in case, but if I need the enema I need help with it, my hubby said he'd try but, er, really???? Anyway, last time I had passed and had not realised there was a problem until the pain hit and I was writhing in agony, and throwing up. Weird! xx
