COVID : Hi ladies , I’ve just tested positive... - My Ovacome
COVID
I dont know about your situation but my friend who was scheduled to have urgent hip surgery has tested just positive prior to going in on Thursday and told it would be 7 weeks before they could operate. Obviously this may be a different scenario .
I’m awaiting surgery for adhesions. Went for my pre op assessment last week which, as my son had covid and was isolating in our house, they wouldn’t complete. My surgery is due 13 jan and I am now awaiting a further call and even though I have not tested positive. I’m still not aware if it will take place. I was also advised if I test positive it would be 7 weeks from when I was clear before they could do a general anaesthesia
Not sure the normal covid rules apply to those waiting an operation, maybe give your CNS a call or speak directly to the oncologist or cancer care team, wish you well.
Hi wndywoo, Talk to your CNS and make sure you get these new drugs that are available so you get a mild dose, then hopefully your op won't be re-scheduled. All the very best Sue xx
There are now 3 anti viral NHS approved drugs for vulnerable patients with Covid and you qualify. They have to be taken within first 5 days of infection. Ring your GP, 111, or the Infectious Diseases doctor at your hospital. I took monulparivir and it seemed effective in 10 hours.
I have heard about the anti viral pills, but no authority has been in touch with information or a pcr test, which I believe you need to have first. How did you get the drug sent to you?
Jenny
I tested positive on lateral flow and then rang 119 for a PCR which arrived next day. When that came back positive on a Sunday I rang 111 who got a local Gp to call me who said I qualified for the antiviral which had been approved one day before by NHS but he said he did not yet have authority to prescribe it. Later that day I got a telcall from the infectious diseases doctor at UCLH where my OC is being treated and she had it couriered over to me. So getting it prescribed was a bit of an effort simply because it was so new. I am pretty certain any GP can prescribe it now as the NHS protocols will have sorted themselves out by now. It was just that I was so early after it’s approval. I would urge any OC who gets Covid to ask their GP for an anti viral and if there is any hiccup over prescribing it to call the Infectious Diseases doc at their hospital.
If you don't take the antiviral, just lateral flow test again in 4 days, then again daily till you get two negative tests on two consecutive days. If you have omicron and not the delta variant, it should, in theory, pass quite quickly, so may have gone easily by the date of your appointment,
