Covid antiviral medication

hello everyone - well after 3 years of never catching covid I’ve bloody got it this week! I went to the theatre last week and masked up and I don’t know for sure that’s where I got it but who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️ so frustrating when I was trying to build up my confidence to get back out and about! Anyway, I’ve been offered the antiviral treatment and wondered if anyone on here has had it?

I came back from holiday last month and we'd both caught covid either we'd caught it in airport or on the plane. We had both tested before we travelled because l was due to go to Christie's 2 days later. But we were both so ill and when we tested we both had covid like you say 3 years 5 jabs later and we were both really ill with it and lm still not on top form if lm honest took 2 weeks for me to show clear my husband about 6 days. But we were both gutted to be honest.Hope you get well very soon, but didnt get offered any viral treatment for it. Had a struggle getting antibiotics for a really bad cough l had with it. Sending my love hope your soon well ❤ love & Happy Easter SheilaFxxx

Oh that’s rubbish Sheila, so frustrating when you’re trying to get out and enjoy life that this thing creeps up and reminds you you’re vulnerable 😕 I was contacted after reporting my result and they delivered the medication this afternoon. I’m going to give it a shot 👍 Hope you feel back to yourself soon x

I have had Covid twice and each time took monulparivir. Anti viral. Felt much better after 12 hours and each time Covid was very mild and symptoms lasted about 5 days. Much less bother than a cold. Have just booked my 7th jab. Emma x

thanks for replying . Hope you’re doing okay. I didn’t even realise we could book further jabs. I think I’ve had 5 but my last one was October ish I think. Beth x

Hi I also caught covid for the first time in March. I also had 5 vaccinations I finished first line treatment 2022. I was very lucky and Covid was mild for me. I was contacted about antivirals on Day 3 I had reported my positive result on Government website and my name must have pinged on the vulnerable list as being less than a year post chemo I hadn't ticked the clinically vulnerable box myself when reporting the test result. I declined the antivirals as my symptoms so mild. I tested positive for 10 days with only symptoms a runny nose. However I have heard very positive things about the antivirals I would have no hesitation in taking them if I had any degree of symptoms and was clinically extremely vulnerable. I believe on reflection I would have been better in days if I had decided to take antivirals but it was so mild for me anyway. I would be happy to take the antivirals in the future if I need them Get well soon

Thanks for replying. The guy on the phone said that it’s definitely downgraded to less lethal and for most people it’s little more than a cold. My symptoms are a nasty headache and achy joints and generally shivery (and I don’t know if grumpy is a symptom but I’m definitely that too!) Take care x

Yes I had Covid last year, took the antiviral and within 24 hours felt heaps better. Would defo recommend it! I’m on a parp and had to stop that for a week but it was so worth it.

Thanks for replying. Oo that’s good to know. Started mine last night and didn’t sleep great but fingers crossed I improve today - my appetite has totally gone so the kids are happy to be scoffing all of the Easter chocolate without having to give me any this morning! Take care x

I got it for the first time about a month ago. I felt so tired, even before I tested positive and that lingers on. Submitting my results online triggered a call from a doctor from a local hospital about anti-viral meds. My symptoms weren't too bad and it was decided that the potential side effects outweighed the benefits because of that, but I had the option to call again should things take a turn for the worse (which luckily they didn't). Hope you recover soon but meanwhile, stay hydrated and get lots of rest xx

Thank you. Yeah it’s a tricky toss up isn’t it. I decided to go for it after a friend said how they helped her. My shivery aches kept me awake last night so I’m hoping the medication kicks in today and I can rest a bit easier. Hope you’re okay x

Thank you, I recovered fairly well, it just sapped my energy for quite some time. I hope the meds give you a better night of sleep. Best wishes for a speedy recovery x

I've had covid twice since being on treatment, the first time I had the antiviral infusion in hospital but they have since discovered that the tablets are more effective and I had them last time (a few months ago). My covid symproms were quite mild anyway so I'm not sure how much the antivirals did but I didn't have any problems with them and I'm sure they must have stopped my symptoms getting any worse! The worst thing was how big the capsules were and having to take so many at a time!Hope you're feeling ok, and this doesn't deter you from getting back out there. At least now you're very unlikely to catch it again for a couple of months! Take care xx

Thank you. It’s good to hear from people who’ve taken them. Yes the tablets are pretty big - I’m sure one got stuck in my throat last night, I had a gross taste in my mouth all night 🤢 bit better with this morning’s lot! Wishing you all the best xx

Hi, my story is exactly the same as yours. I decided enough was enough, why was I keeping myself alive to stay shut indoors, so, after three years I went to a wedding last Saturday and had it by Wednesday! I have Paxlovid, yes they are big but, pills, infusions, jabs we learn to cope. I’ve been really bad, as bad as the worse days of that first chemo. It’s not the miracle cure for me but three days on it and my sore throat has gone. I’d say take it, it’s worth it just to know you have something to help. Take care. Gill X

Ahh, Gill, it’s so bloody annoying! Taking the plunge back into stuff and then getting this as a souvenir! I’ve just taken my second dose so hoping to pick up a bit today 🤞 - had to smash the Easter magic a bit last night as I had no energy for the usual egg hunt but the kids liked the disorganised pile of chocolate in the middle of the room this morning!! Hope you start feeling better soon xx

Hi OS, I hope it works for you. Well done on maintaining the Easter joy for the kids! I’m on my own and am having enough trouble just coping with me, so extra brownie points for your fortitude and good Mummyness. Onwards and upwards, we’ll get there! Gill X

Hi, I had 3 days of infusion last May at my local hospital clinic for Covid. I am 76 and my Dr, recommended this for me. It made me feel so much better for fighting this virus. Sending my best wishes, Donna xx

thanks Donna - I received the tablets yesterday so I’ve had 2 doses so far. Seems like people feel the benefit around 24 hours in so I’m hoping for a good sleep tonight! Hope you’re doing well. Beth xx

I caught Covid last summer and went in for the intravenous treatment as other medication I am taking meant I couldn't take the pills. I felt much better almost immediately and would strongly recommend this.

I had covid at New Year and was in hospital for 3 days with sepsis, I asked the Consultant on the ward should I not be on antiviral tablets and he said no I didn't need them. Because I hadn't entered my test on line as it was the hospital who tested me I wasn't sent any. Then 2 days after I came out of hospital the Cancer Centre rang and asked if I had been given antiviral I said no she said when did you test positive I said 5 days ago, but apparently its too late to start taking them then, so I would take them if offered, Good luck with your recovery.

I thought I was advised that they are not so strict as they used to be about the 5 day window in which anti virals must be taken, so I suggest anyone who is told that, questions it and asks them to doublecheck. Emma x

thank you, that sounds rough. The doctor who phoned did mention the 5 day thing to me when I was trying to decide whether to take them. I did go for it and I am feeling better today actually - had a really good sleep and have woken with a much easier head! Hope you’re doing okay now x
