Hi ladies, I hope everyone is as well as possible. My mom is currently on avastin, doxil and carbo for her first reoccurance and having bathroom issues. Every time she eats something (every other day) has horrible diarrhea for hours. She eats a very plain diet - spaghetti, chicken, plain, plain food and she continues to have this issue. Did anyone have this experience while on this treatment?
She’s attributing it to the avastin. Which I am not sure because I know she wants to get out of that and stop that treatment. She’s also very fatigued.

Hi. I think she should talk to her team about this. Also if she doesn’t want the Avastin she can say no. I refused it for frontline because of the side effects and feeling I wouldn’t benefit that much from it. I don’t know the data for its use in recurrences. Usually people get constipated from chemo and especially zofran for nausea. If she’s taking a different anti nausea med maybe she should try zofran? But she does need to talk to the nurse. Xx
Thank you for your post. I wanted echo delia2's thoughts above and urge that your mom contacts her clinical team about the bowel problems she is experiencing as soon as possible. They will be able to conduct any necessary investigations to the cause of the diarrhoea and offer personalised advice on how best to alleviate it. Diarrhoea can be caused by chemotherapy treatment and clinicians have a range of medications to manage this. However, diarrhoea can also be a symptom of many other conditions that need medical expertise.

How awful. She needs to talk to her team, oncologist or cancer nurse urgently. She will be exhausted if she is only able to eat every other day. She must seek advice please x
