Cisplatin and Caelyx treatment.any experience to share please.

I’ve been cancer free for 17 months but the beast returned. I m on the above cocktail for 6 months at one monthly intervals. I was wondering what are most usual side effects. I had the first one on Friday, felt dreadful the first day, then was fine, apart from increase in neuropathy. Thanks for any info, much appreciated.

Hi. I’ve not had cisplatin but did carbo doxil. With doxil you need to use heavy moisturizer on feet and hands the first week and avoid heat—eg no hot shower or washing dishes. Also you can get mouth sores so frequent rinsing with warm salt water or bicarbonate of soda is recommended and very gentle toothpaste. Otherwise it’s the usual nausea and fatigue. Also my platelets tanked every time but bounced back by the end of the cycle.

Thank you for tips. Doc warned me about not wearing tight shoes, bras a and panties. I live in Greece where it’s very hot at present.

As with Delia2. (I am on Caelyx by itself), Increased neuropathy. Horrendous ulcers in mouth and oesophagus, nausea . And I have bad muscle and joint pain for a few days from day 3. I am on 5th line, and I have had that particular side effect with every chemo. You have to be careful with heat, and keep moisturised. I have not had any issues with this particular one, but I do get hot spots e.g. back of legs, elbows etc., which burn. Just follow the usual protocols re mouth care, etc. Once I get to a week I start to feel fine. Hope this helps. Therese

Thank you for that helpful info. I’m on 4th line and my 3rd line was not all pleasant- drs tell me this cocktail will be easier. I’m allergic to carboplatin hence the cisplatin plus Caelyx . As yet my cancer is not resistant to platines. 🤞Good luck with your treatment.
