Update : my sister ovarian cancer, question.

A big thank you for everyone that shared their experiences with ovarian cancer and gave myself and my sister some fabulous information.

She had her scan a week ago and yesterday got the phone call……her tumours have shrunk.

Oh my gosh, the relief.

I know from reading many posts on here that chemotherapy does do it’s job but you always wonder if you are ‘the one’. So she has her fourth and final session before debulking tomorrow. I think the surgeons were considering doing surgery before the final one but she hasn’t heard anything yet. I think my sister would rather have the last session, although we understand the flip side is the final one may not make that much difference and bring her immune system down.

What is the time frame from the last session to debulking? Is it pretty much as soon as?

Hi nettiebobsMy mum just had debulking surgery after 4 chemo and there was a 4 week gap between her last chemo and surgery. She is due to have 2 more rounds of chemo to ‘mop up’ any tiny bits left, which will be 4 weeks after the surgery x

Sorry I’ve only just seen your reply - since posting this we’ve actually been told it’s more like 5-6 weeks until starting chemo after surgery, which mum is happy about as she should have more energy by then. But I guess the answer to your question remains the same, mum had a 4 week gap between chemo and starting surgery.

The surgery went amazingly well, they managed to get rid of all the cancer except for any tiny bits which the remaining chemo should hopefully get rid of. 🤞

I won’t lie she had a really tough time the week after the surgery but she had 2 major bowel resections. After week 2 she’s so much better and recovering well.

Great result. I had my last chemo before surgery on 22nd January and operation on 4th March. They left Avastin off the last chemo as that has an affect on healing. It will also come down to the surgery schedule available. Please don't be alarmed when your sister has a consult with surgeon as they will tell your sister every possible scenario that may occur and this can be overwhelming.
