Cistaplatin side effects - any advice?

Hi everyone. I've had 5 sessions of chemo and had to have a chest drain to remove fluid in my lungs and have a blood clot in my leg. However following the last couple of sessions I've had trouble bringing phlegm up at night and if I lie down flat feel like my chest is on fire.

I was taken off epotoside due to a problem with swallowing as well.

Wondered if anyone has similar symptoms and if they had any tips or if it's just something that will get better by itself.

Many thanks xx

Hi DichadSorry to hear you are suffering with these symptoms. I do recognise the burning chest and not being able to lie flat from having pleural effusion. I don’t want to worry you but you should definitely call your chemo line to report these symptoms. They might get better on their own but why take the risk? xx

Thanks Lyndy , have reported them now, things moved on a bit as I started to bring up blood. Got a scan today so hopefully that will give a better picture all round.

I was on Etoposide and Cisplatin. I had to stop the Etoposide as it made me so ill. I seem to be tolerating the Cisplatin better with not too many unsavoury side effects.

Cisplatin as the chemo drug used by the famous cyclist Lance Armstrong. Despite the side effects it helped to cure him of testicular cancer. Nausea is the biggest problem in my experience.

Hello Dichad,

Just to echo what Lyndy said, I hope you were able to get hold of your team on your chemo hotline. Please do let your team know if you haven't done so already.

I hope that they can relieve the symptoms you have been experiencing.

Please do get in touch if we can be of any help.

Best wishes,

Cathryn

Thanks for the message, I have reported the symptoms and they don’t seem overly concerned.
