Olaparib side effects

Hi there, this is my first post, though I've been following lots of the advice already given. I'm about to start Olaparib . I expect side effects, but when will they kick in? Immediately or after a few days or weeks? I know everyone is different but I'm keen to hear of your experiences!

Hi I started Olaparib on 25 August - I had sickness when I stopped the anti sickness tablets so now take an anti sickness before each dose. I was fatigued almost as soon as I started taking it but as I am also on Avastin not sure which or if both is causing it! The joint pain has started in the last few days so about a week after starting it for me. I also have itchy skin. As you say everyone is different so you may not have the same reactions as me. Good luck x

Thanks so much for your reply. My oncologist has recommended I take anti sickness for a full 8 weeks! It's good for me to be forewarned, thanks again and all the best for your treatment.

Hi. I started on Olaparib about 3 months ago and side effects started pretty much straight away. I had nausea, fatigue, a cough and breathlessness. I was on 600mg so, after a few weeks, was put down to 400mg. This has been better - still have all the side effects but much reduced. I posted here to ask people how long it took their bodies to adjust to the meds and, whilst everyone's different, 4 months came out as a guide. Good luck. You might be one of the lucky ones with no symptoms at all x

Thanks for that, I guess I'll just have to wait and see....being a very impatient person, this is a challenge! I don't know my dosage yet (collecting prescription tomorrow). Its reassuring to know I can cut down if things are bad! Good luck with your continuing treatment!

You may not get side effects. I have been on Olaparib for over 3 years and not had any side effects. Hope you will be lucky x

I was mostly ok. When I got super fatigued, it coincided with reduced Haemoglobin and platelets. So my dosage for reduced. This has happened twice in the past year plus I have been on olaparib. I also had 1 unit blood transfusion the second time my HB dropped. But overall the journey has been fine.

Thank you for that advice! I collect my tablets from the pharmacy today and then I'll see what happens. At least I feel prepared now! All the best for your further treatment.
