Post chemo side effects?

Hi, I had my last , of 6, chemo's 3 weeks ago and the last couple of days my mouth has become really sore plus there are about 4 mouth ulcers. In the mornings my mouth is very dry with the impression of my teeth on my tongue. It looks like dehydration but I drink about 2 litres a day. Has anyone had anything similar after they finished chemo? Had a massive mouth ulcer after round 4 but thought I wouldn't have it again, especially now I've finished. Maybe just wishful thinking as I was told it takes 3 months for all the chemical to work their way out .

Some of my energy has returned this week and I've been talking a lot - it has crossed my mind that this could be a reason!!

Sarah-

Congratulations on completing your chemo! 💥🤛🏻💪🏻

I am so sorry you are having these lingering effects. I haven't had the misfortune of suffering from mouth sores so can't offer you any advice. Although I am confident it's not from being too talkative 🤐😂🤣

Hope it goes away soon so you can fully enjoy your end of treatment! I am counting down myself!

I'm sure others will be along with some practical advice for you.

Wishing you a very long and happy remission!

I had something similar- for me it felt like my mouth had been scalded. I literally drank litres of water to try to ease it, but it didn't make any difference. I had it after chemos 4-6 and it went away just before each round. A weird sensation. Luckily no mouth ulcers though - I used a salt-water mouth rinse each day to help.

I hope the feeling subsides soon, but maybe ring your CNS if it doesn't?

Hi, weirdly it was chemo 4 and now, post chemo 6 that I have this sore mouth. Interesting about water; I've been drinking lots with no effect. Lots of salt water , mouth wash and bonjela close to hand. I guess like all the other side effects it will pass.

All the very best,

Sarah🌷

Hi Sarah,

Great news about the last chemo, and also your energy levels are good, now to fix the side effect I do think your body need that 3 month to recuperate, give yourself time your body has been through quite a battle and win.

As for the dry mouth I had the same it would wake me up through the night, you can buy a dry mouth wash over the counter this does help and I would make up a jug of salt water, to rinse through out the day, if this does not help again there is a gel you can buy over the counter I did use it with success,

I'm sorry I did not give you the names but I'm away at the moment and will be back home on Monday I will post the that information then.

Cheers Lorraine xx

As I said keep a jug of salty water and rinse through out the day, How accessible is your cancer clinic ? ring and get advice also,

Hope this helps any mouth problem that makes it hard to eat or just be comfortable is terrible.

Hi Sarah. I used to wake up with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth and have to peel it off! I also had mouth ulcers and was given two prescriptions by the hospital. One to use during the day and one to prevent pain before eating. They worked a lot better than anything I got from the chemist, so I should give your CNS a ring.

My mum was given a medicated mouth wash in hospital for her sore mouth? That might be worth asking for?
