I went for my 4th avastin on Friday, but after waiting several hours had a surprise visit from my consultant, who told me my recent scan had picked up a blood clot in my left thigh/groin, so I couldn’t have treatment that day and it was being stopped altogether! I now have fragmin injections and an appt next week to start niraparib
Just wondering if any one has had avastin whilst on blood thinners? And what sort of side effects does niraparib cause?
Thank you all xxxx

I started Niraparib after my first and only recurrence (so far) 3 years ago. Initially the side effects were awful. Nausea, fatigue, scarily abnormal liver function tests, high blood pressure and terrible sensitivity to the sun.
My Onc stopped it for 2 weeks because he was very concerned about liver function and high BP. He wanted to start me on antihypertensives but I refused.
Niraparib was restarted 2 weeks later with a reduced dose. Although still a little fatigued it is manageable. Liver function, kidney function and Blood pressure all very normal now and without needing any medication.
My Onc very pleased and so am I .
For me it was worth persevering and I have now passed my 5 year since diagnosis milestone !!
Hi. I’m on Olaparib rather than Niraparib but they are similar. I’m very grateful to be on it since it shrank my remaining tumor and kept me ned for a year so far. I did have nausea in the first two months but easily controlled with meds. Most frustrating is the fatigue which is much less frequent now. I’m on a reduced dose. Some people swear by starting out low and gradually increasing the dose. Good luck!
