Caelyx experiences of it. Covid vaccine question too.

Hi, my Mum was diagnosed with OC May 2019, After Carbo taxol (which left her poorly and hospitalized a couple of times). Her CA125 levels have steadily risen, now 1400, she is down for Chemo again to hopefully get rid of some remaining cells, Caelyx (Liposomal Doxorubicin) is now the drug of choice. Any hints tips experiences for her this time round? And also she has had her covid vaccine (1st one) how likely is it that she’ll get another before she starts. She is in her 70’s.

She said it’s under her left breast around the spleen area.

Hi. Caelyx/doxil affects the skin and mouth membranes. She needs to use heavy moisturizer on feet and hands several times daily at least for a week. Also a gentle toothpaste and mouth rinse with baking soda or salt. I kept ice on my hands and feet and in my mouth during chemo. Not sure if it helped. I wish her luck.

Thank you. Is this moisturiser like diprobase? And gentle toothpaste? Can you recommend one? I just want to make sure Mum is prepared for it. She had an awful time with the previous Chemo and anything like this is always helpful.

Hi. I’m in the US so brands are different. I use Biotene toothpaste and Eucerin or Aveeno lotion for very dry skin. You can ask your chemist for recommendations.

I can't answer as far as Caelyx goes, but in terms of the vaccines, its a 12 week gap between the first and second jab. If she had the Oxford AZ vaccine, that 12 week gap is optimal - more effective with more immunity if its left till then, so better not to have it sooner. If she had the Pfizer, she might (or might not) get the second dose a bit sooner, but the government is still saying up to 12 weeks.
