What is the chance of losing your hair with Caelyx?

My wife is starting Caelyx as second line treatment for stage 3c high grade OC. The worst thing for her with the carboplatin/paclitaxol was losing her hair, so she was very happy when her oncologist told her she would find a few hairs on her comb but not go bald. Today, reading a MacMillan leaflet on Caelyx she was very depressed to find that she could lose all her hair again. Any advice and real life information would be very helpful.

Thanks very much

Michael

Hi there, thought I would write and tell you in 2016 I had 5 chemo of caelyx and didn’t loose my hair, tiny bit thinner but no one else would notice, it’s now 2018 and I’m back on caelyx had 3 rounds and haven’t lost any, hope this helps love Marg xxxx

Hi, I've had Caelyx as a single treatment and Carbo/ Caelyx and did not lose my hair, some say it could thin a little I did not notice any difference..Cheers Lorraine xx

My oncologist said there's only a small percentage chance of losing my hair again. However, I have packed a wig for my hols tomorrow as if it's going to come out then it will come out next week some time but I doubt I'll wear it anyway. It was ok last year as it was winter and I could wear hats as it was cold on top. Now I'm used to a little hair I've sort of got used to it so would really like to keep it this time. I thought superglue after shampoo may help....

Please assure your wife that whether she has hair or not makes no difference because she is a beautiful woman. My hubby constantly told me how beautiful I was, even when I looked so ill I was like something from a concentration camp. I embraced my baldness and only wore my wig twice. Once in a supermarket and once at the airport. After that I didn't give a fig - and neither did anyone else I noticed. There's always an upside too. No leg shaving - no random chin hairs and no expensive goings on downstairs - if you are into that sort of thing.

And, it's not forever!! I've now got a little crop of curly hair which I'm quite thrilled with as it was straight before.

All the best, Kryssy x

Hi Michael, so I just am one of the many to tell you it will be okay. I have done two rounds of Caelyx. I didn’t lose much hair at all. Just don’t try the Gem/Carboplatin combo just about went bald again with that one. Tell her it will probably be okay. Much love Sharon.

Hi Michael

I too had carbo/caelyx as second line and didn’t lose my hair - I maybe had a little bit of thinning but nothing noticeable so your dear wife will probably not have any hair loss but just be a bit ready to deal with some constipation as that can be a side effect for some. It’s definitely more do- able than carbo/ taxol. All the best to you both

Love Jane xx
