Covid Vaccine & CA125

Hello ladies - just wondering if anyone had any experience of how or if the Covid vaccine might affect CA125 readings?

I had my first jab 2 weeks ago and my CA125 checked last week and it had gone from 15 to 18. I am hoping the vaccine has triggered a bit of inflammation and caused the rise rather than it being the start of a recurrence.

The nurse said she didn’t think so but thinks it might instead be adhesions from my operation causing it so was wondering if any of you kind ladies might know.

Love Yvonne ❤️

Hi Yvonne, sorry I haven’t had mine yet. I was due to have it yesterday at my local health centre but was so breathless I couldn’t manage it. My husband phoned to tell them and ask when I could next get it. He was basically told that yesterday was the last day they were doing them for the vulnerable in the surgery and didn’t know where else I would be able to get it now!!! Yep you couldn’t make it up.

Kharen, you can book it yourself on line via the government 'book a Covid vaccine' site, or by ringing 119 and selecting the book a vaccination option. As long as you have been invited already (which you have), you can use this service - I missed mine cos I was ill and rebooked it myself, which was better for me because I had the option to select a smaller site closer to home, in a small church hall run by a local pharmacy nearby.

Oh thanks for that info Miriam. Great that one minute you are deemed vulnerable and have to go to the health centre and the next minute I’m expected to queue up with everyone else. Doesn’t make sense.

I;m clinically vulnerable and when I went last Tuesday at lunchtime, there was one person just leaving and no one else in there other than 3 vaccinators, a couple of receptionists and a pharmacist,, no queuing. Cold inside, all the doors wide open, but I was dead chuffed about that, exactly as it should be. If there'd been a queue, I'd have waited in the car if the queue was inside - outdoors queueing is fine, if a bit chilly, I'm not an early riser, but I notice most people do seem to like getting a crack of dawn appointment (anywhere between 8 and 12 midday as far as concerned), which is when queuing is more likely. Same thing in the blood departments at most hospitals - go at lunchtime and its either empty or just a few people waiting. I can only conclude the world has far more larks in it than owls like me....

Hi YvonnneMy jab gave me a little temperature and a sore arm. I am guessing this could cause a bit of inflammation as could any adhesions... so I would put it to one side and see what it is next time xx

My Ca125 didn’t go up after my jab - but different people have different responses, and even if your Ca125 has gone up a bit that’s not a guarantee that the cancer is recurring. Hopefully it’ll have stabilised at your next blood test.

Hi, I also had my vaccination 2 weeks before my blood test and my CA125 showed a small increase from 9 to 10 after months of being stable. I immediately started to worry about it as silly as that sounds over such a small increase! I've since calmed down and decided to wait for next results. We are bound to worry about any increase in CA125 as it's often the only indication of any changes. My consultant is not concerned and said it will often fluctuate. I'll have to try not to focus on it too much 🙄 wishing you all the best, Jan x

Hi Yvonne,

The dreaded C A 125 test after my chemo mine went to 9 its been 15 and 13 12 l had my covid

Vaccine 3 wks ago. And had my blood tests last wk and it was 10 phew, l mentioned this to the Doctor and he said anything under 30 was classed as normal. He told me they didn't know why but it just went up slightly and to try and not

worry about it . Butl know we all do , l actually said to the Doctor did he the covid alter alter the C A 125 reading he said he really wouldnt have thought so. So please try not to worry your readings are well below the normal reading. He also said that for some reason some women have very high readings on the C A 125 and actually didn't have a thing wrong. Love & hugs SheilaF xxx
