Yes, I'm with you. I want to know everything about my treatment, but afraid I can't help you with this one. Hopefully someone on this site will be able to help.
I don't know anything about this treatment sorry I can't help you I was wondering if anybody had the covid-19 vaccine shot and been on dexa myosin and or immune shots
I had to have an emergency stoma because of the tumours blocking the gut. I have a parastomal hernia. It can be a pain both literally and figuratively. I have worn support pants in the days when I was a lot more active than I am now.
Hi. I had to have a colostomy and a stoma after my debulking surgery. Can I ask, has it been suggested that you might need a stoma temporary or otherwise? Yes unfortunately, people do sometimes develop hernias after surgery. If you are allocated a stoma nurse they will advise you how to avoid a hernia (or at least lessen the likelihood of your developing one) and can tell what garments and aids can help to prevent this. About 9 months after surgery I started developing a parastomal hernia and my stoma nurse advised on the sort of support I could wear. I have to admit that up to that point I had not been wearing anything more robust than "Sloggi" type support briefs. If you can stand to wear special support garments please wear them - you can get a certain number of these on NHS prescription. Unfortunately, although I got some support garments, in the end I could not wear them, for two reasons. Firstly this was all happening during the very hot summer of 2018 and I could not stand the pressure of wearing anything really tight around my abdomen and secondly I found that the garments actually interfered with the function of my stoma which meant burst/leaking bags. I would recommend getting garments that can be made to measure and have. a hole reinforced to pull the stoma bag through. This will still offer support without putting pressure on the stoma and bag.
Having said all this, this is just my experience and to this day I still can't stand tight pressure around my abdomen. Full panties and high waist skinny jeans is about a far as I go. However, this is just me. Other people may (and do have) different and successful experiences. Colostomy UK has also been a valuable source of information for me and may give you some insight into how people have coped with a parastomal hernia or avoided one. Needless to say, all the advice about being careful of heavy lifting is very important. I was told not to lift anything heavier than a mug full of water in a kettle. I have run on a bit and this is probably more info than you wanted but I hope some of it is useful. Meanwhile my stoma, hernia and I are jogging along quite well together. Jackie
I will have to find another way of getting my dog in the car then, she refuses to get in I have to lift her! Thought the heavy lifting was only for while you were healing after surgery not long term. I live alone so do everything ,shifting furniture, carrying shopping etc. hooveringIt was mentioned when I first was diagnosed if I had surgery it was a distinct possibility, so I assume it still is. Dont see the surgeon until Wednesday. Fingers being trebly crossed.
Yes I can see it is not always easy to comply with advice given. I think my point was that I didn't really lift anything heavier than a tea mug or a plate of food for about six weeks after surgery and I still developed a hernia 9 months later.. Maybe wearing proper support garments from the get go would have prevented this or at least stopped it from being quite so bad. We'll never know now🤔
Hi. Agree knowledge is good. Research is good. I don't have a stoma but after surgery wore a brace for 3 months and to this day wear control pants as I have 2 inguinal hernias and an incisional or eventration hernia. They are all tucked in but are there because of weakened muscle tissue I didn't know about
