Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many of us on Parps have been vaccinated so far, and if any reactions have occurred . Due to have mine soon,I’m on Olaparib, which doesn’t always make me feel great so could do without anything else .

Best wishes

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

Yes I have had my pffizer jab 12 days ago, have felt so tired and washed out ever since and obviously a sore arm. I am on Niraparib and have only been on it just over a month 200mg daily, which also makes me feel pretty rubbish, but hoping with time it will settle down. As I am finding the side effects as bad as the chemo.

Good luck with your jab sending you good wishes.

Chris

Thank you. I think you will find it does settle , I’ve been on Olaparib for a year, it’s quite odd as sometimes you have really good days and then others you wake up feeling completely zonked I find. At the moment strange feeling in chest , maybe it will settle . I think the initial strong side effects do go within 3 months so I hope you feel better soon . I’m going to go with vaccine so I can see family so fingers crossed.Take care

Hi Jennifer, just reading your post and see you say you have a strange feeling in your chest. Can I ask please what you mean. I started niraparib on a reduced dose two weeks ago and find I am quite breathless but also have a funny feeling in my chest I cannot explain. It is almost as though I’ve pulled a muscle and cannot take a proper intake of breath. My gp sounded my chest last week and said it was clear. So many side effects you don’t know what’s what do you. X

Hi This began maybe just after Xmas ? Feels like pressure on my chest centre , a combination of a palpitation /indigestion feeling when I’m resting I notice it most ! I can still exercise well and am better when I’m doing . Don’t have a cough . No matter how much I teeth clean and mouthwash, mouth feels yuk . Oh and burp massively!!! I’m scared to say anything as don’t want to come off pills . Bloods are good from last test .

Am I imagining ???

Nice to hear from you

Hi Jennifer, I really need to try and get some exercise. I used to be really fit and was just starting to build that up again following the chemo when I was started on this. It’s the easy option just to stay in the house! Oh glad I’m not the only one burping. Take care x

Hello Jennifer

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing these symptoms and how they're affecting you.

It's important to tell your team about the symptoms that you're having. They will be able to investigate what's causing the feeling in your chest and advise you on how it can be managed. If it's a side effect of olaparib, it may be possible to reduce the dose, which could help to make it more manageable.

If you have a chemotherapy hotline number, you can call them, or you can get in touch with your CNS or other point of contact in your team. If your symptoms suddenly worsen, please call 111 straight away.

I hope that you can get some advice soon about your symptoms. If there's something that we can help with, or if it would help to talk anything through, please get in touch with our Support Service.

Best wishes

Julia

Hi Kkaren, have you had your bloods checked? I felt the same when they put myNiraparib up to 300 and had to have a transfusion as my bloods crashed. Just a thought, hope you feel better x

Hi JenniferYou beat me to asking the same question. I've been on Olaparib for 2yrs, stable but my body definitely knows its taking a drug everyday so I've had the same concerns about not wanting to further complicate what my body is dealing with. I'm booked in for vaccine in a week, but will just delay it by a couple of days if I can as seeing my oncologist in 10 days for regular review.

I know of enough 'normal' people who've had the vaccine with no reaction, so I'm feeling hopeful.

love from

Siobhan x

I asked the hospital and they said go for it . I’ve plucked up courage and gone this evening so I will let you know how it goes !

I hope your appointment goes well , and encouraging to know you’ve had two years clear with Olaparib.

Thank you

Hi JenniferHope you got your vaccine OK and have had no problems. Suzanne had her vaccine (AstraZeneca) on Sat just gone. She got a headache and slight aches and pains the following night, but resolved with just paracetamol. She said absolutely no comparison with chemo side effects.

She has been on her magic pills (olaparib) for 3¼ years, side effects now minimal mainly insomnia.

Thank you so much for that . Everyone has been so helpful! I went on Saturday and have to say been fine . Stiff arm and sleeping even more than usual. I had Pfizer . So I was just being a wimp !!! Hope the magic pills keep going strong

I am hoping to have my vaccination soon. I'm in group 4 and have been taking Olaparib for 8 months .Our GP practice is vaccinating 71 year olds at the moment so hopefully it shouldn't be long now! Good wishes to everyone getting their vaccine this week x
