ovarian cyst

good morning everyone, i'm not sure if i am allowed to post here as i do not have OC, i recently went through test as i had an abnormal TVS, i had a biopsy on my womb as it was thickened, thankfully results were normal, i also have a cystic womb, so i had an mri which showed small fibroids and a small 5cm complex cyst on my left ovary. The gynaecologist said they can't tell me any more about the type of cyst and they are happy to leave it and rescan it next year in april. Iv'e since read about complex cyst and i am still confused as to whether they could possibly be cancerous in the future. Any help/knowledge is appreciated? My ca125 was normal at 34. I also have bloatedness, nausea and i'm in perimenopause.

thank you xx

We have collated some information about ovarian cysts here ovacome.org.uk/what-are-ova... which I hope will be helpful for you.

Thank you for the reply. I will have a good read through all the information x

Hi there. I feel for you. I had a complex cyst found March 2017. I had 3 monthly check ups ( blood tests, ultrasound scans & examinations). I was told by my gynaecologist there was a 2% chance of it becoming malignant. Unfortunately, I was in that 2% ( ultrasound Dec 2017 picked it up then MRI Jan 2018). By then I was stage 3b. My CA125 was in the 50s July 2017 & I so wish I’d asked for further investigation then.

I would advise you to make sure someone repeats a CA125 test ( I understand these aren’t always accurate but if yours starts rising then hopefully someone can investigate the reasoning behind it).

I do hope you end up in the 98% 🤞🏼

Hopefully my reply hasn’t caused you further worry - just want to make sure they keep a close eye on you.

Please take good care xx

Hi there, thank you so much for your reply, it hasn't caused me any further distress, so please don't worry. I'm sorry that they didn't catch your cancer early, it's quite scary being left watching and waiting. I think sometimes they should just take the cyst out asap especially complex/large cyst. I have been quite lucky as i was seen within 2 weeks as they first suspected womb cancer due to my thickened womb but that came back ok and then they found the cyst and fibroid. I am keeping an eye of myself if i get any changes i will let them know. Thanks again x

Hi, Sorry to read about your situation. I had a 7cm complex cyst which turned out to be stage 1a ovarian cancer. If I were you I would insist on being referred to a Gynaecological oncologist for a second opinion. Pay to see one privately if you can afford to and it speeds up the process. Please let us know how you get on. Good luck. Love from Mel xx 💕. P.s. Not to worry you, but my CA-125 was 33 at the time the “complex cyst” was discovered. By the time I saw the gynaecological oncologist 2 weeks later it had jumped to 58. They didn’t know for sure if was cancer till it was removed.

Thank you , I am under the oncologist gynae through the two week pathway, I saw her for the follow and they are rescanning in april after a period of watching and waiting. She seems to think there is nothing to worry about and that it's small at 5cm. It doesn't cause too much pain, I did have abnormal bleeding but that has now stopped, the only thing bugging me is a bloated stomach and pressure if i lay on my tummy, I am a tummy sleeper so difficult to avoid. I just hope the retest my ca125 when they see me again in April x

That’s really good that your are already with a gynaecological oncologist. If I had your symptoms I would be chasing this up / perhaps seek a second opinion from another gynaecological oncologist - but that’s just me. I don’t want to worry you, however, the fact that it is a complex cyst would worry me, and 5 cm is not that small. Good luck with everything - do let us know how you get on. 💕 love from Mel xx
