I finished 2nd chemo three days ago. Today my right eye is red, watering and painfully sensitive to light. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Yes this happened to me it didnt water but was very puffy. The consultant said she wasn't worried about it. It seemed to gradually go back to normal. Just had second treatment havent noticed anything yet except feeling really grotty. Perhaps you should mention it. Have heard of blocked tear ducts which think can be sorted.

Thanks Lizzieanne! There are so many new pains and issues. I just felt so overwhelmed. I’m so glad you responded. I have prescribed antibiotics eye drops from when I scratched my cornea a while back. These seem to be helping.

Hi

I am on Rucaparib at the moment. I have recently had 2 bouts of blepheritis in my right eye. Not sure if it was to do with the parp but I have never had it before. My bottom eyelid was red swollen and was sensitive to light. Had to wear sunglasses for a few days

Gp prescribed antibiotic eye drops and advised to bathe my eye with warm water and baby shampoo . It resolved after a few days. Yours might be something else though .

I had a lot of eye problems all through chemo.Blurry vision then watering eyes which I bought eye drops for & that helped. Then when my eyelashes fell out during 5th chemo my eyes were really puffy like I’d been crying all night 😆Don’t worry bout it just think we’ll I’m getting through it 🤗Now 4mths post chemo eyes are normal, I have eyelashes back & all symptoms that I thought I would never be rid of are leaving me ....life’s good ( part from a sluggish bowel ,incisional hernia & prolapse 🤣) but they are forgiven 😊

Good to hear from you, Mammi! I’m 69 And just finished my third chemo last week. So far this time my eye has been okay. The eye doctor I saw thinks I may have scratched my cornea again. I scratched it twice in 2019. I think it happens at night when I toss and turn and move pillows and covers all about. I’m glad to read that your OC was found at stage 1. I wish this was the case for more women. I’m so impressed with all the women on this site. Such a kind and generous lot. I feel less alone when you and others chime in with advice. Thank you, Mammi.

Hi Sashay 2020, it wasn't the chemos that affected my eyes but long-term the steroids administered as part of my regime did bring about cataract development. About a year after the last chemo on second line finished, I needed both lenses replacing. So, if your eyesight starts going 'foggy' see your optician as, in the UK, they have the kit to test and refer you. But you'll know your system in the US.

Warm wishes and stay safe. L x

Thank you lesley. I have been on Restasis eye drops for years for my dry eyes. It’s Cyclosporine and I read that it can interact with chemo so I have decided to just use plain saline during chemo. Last time I saw the eye doc, he said cataracts just beginning. I will keep an eye on that. Thanks again for your help and

Depending on the chemo some really effect the olfactory system and eyes. You can take a Claritin daily for a few days, or get some allergy eye drops or just something to clean the eye. Chemo works but side effects are so different and sometimes we need stuff to lessen them. Hope you feel better

Thanks so much for the tips. I am seeing the ophthalmologist today. I explained I am on

Chemo and was told I could wait in the car until they could get me in an exam room. I am glad of that.

Thanks again

Thanks Joanne. It’s astounding how many different issues can pop up during chemo. I’m glad the eye doc will check me out today. Thanks very much for responding.

Yes. My right eye looked the same. I went to eye doc today. Antibiotic and steroid drops. He says I have a lot of inflammation in the eye. I’m doing better today. Thanks for responding, TNkit!
