Hi ladies, have any of you had Brachytherapy? I have my 6th cycle of chemo next week then I will have 3 sessions of Brachytherapy over 8 days as a small tumour was found at the neck of my womb during surgery. Just need some advice

Hi there,

I had womb cancer & fallopian tube cancer 4 years ago,so after the hysterectomy & chemo,it was followed by brachytherapy.

I had no problems with the brachy I went for four days and the treatment was 4-5mins each session. I had to travel to a cancer centre for this,so we stayed in a hotel overnight and after treatment we went to the local National Trust properties. So what I am trying to say is I felt fine afterwards.

A few days later I felt extremely tired so I guess the brachy had kicked in. I remember saying to my husband I would like to try and do a bit of gardening, not heavy work of course, but in fact I could not do any.

I hope that this helps.

Good luck with your final treatment & the brachy. Caleda x

Caleda, Thanks for your reply, I glad you didn't have side effects. I will just stay positive and try not to think about the planning CT and treatment as at the moment I'm finding the thought of it scary.

5 yrsago I was diagnosed with womb cancer. Grade 2 stage 1b. After complete hysterectomy I had 6 sessions of chemo, 25 sessions of radiotherapy and two sessions of brachytherapy at the very end of treatment. I had no problems what so ever with the brachytherapy. No tiredness. My friend, womb cancer grade 3 and stage 1a had 3 sessions of brachytherapy and was tired after it. Hope this helps.

Many thanks for you reply, I will be able to cope with tiredness. The whole idea of this treatment I'm finding scary. Like chemo it the fear of the unknown

Hi Brachytherapy is internal radiotherapy to treat the area around where the womb tumour was.
