SURGERY TOMORROW

Full debulking surgery tomorrow. Got to be at hospital by 7am. Nerves alright at the moment, doubt if I'll sleep much tonight. Expect it will be emotional when my husband leaves me at the hospital doors and I wave him goodbye.

I had my surgery just as lockdown was starting. It is hard not having visitors, but just make sure your phone’s charged so you can speak to people when you need to.

I found the thought of surgery much worse than the reality. I was super anxious too, but you are in such good hands and before you know it it will be over and you’ll be on the road to recovery.

Thanks for all your support. Surgery went better than I hoped. No sickness or other side effects. Sitting up and had a light evening meal same evening. Only problem was that I had 2 Rectus Sheath Infusions which leaked after surgery and it was decided to remove them as I had more pain relief on my gown than was going in. Had option to come home on the Thursday but opted to stay an extra day as bowels hadn't worked fully. Consultant was very pleased with how surgery went. So just waiting for results of tissue samples taken

Your going to be ok ❤ youll be pretty out of it for awhile.i remember when i woke up i was in my room and i kept getting up to pee.not knowing my bed alarms each time i get up and the nurse kept telling me i have a Catheter in just pee. I can still see that nurse looking in at me"shes up again"i was used to moving around with an iv stand.this will soon be a memory for you ✌💪

Good luck for tomorrow. One thing I will say is the op is not as bad as anything you are imagining. Im the biggest wimp and realised after its fear of the unknown. I had radical hysterectomy on the Thursday and home on Monday so hopefully you will be home with hubby soon. Quick piece of advice, if someone hasnt already said, ask hubby to bring a pillow to put over your tummy (under the seat belt) for the trip home. Big hug Kathy xx

Good luck for tomorrow! I had to be at the hospital by 6.00 am but once the schedule of ops had been determined for that day (it happened to be the day of the junior doctors' strike so I don't know if that had anything to do with it) the anaesthetist let me go down to the cafe to have coffee, providing I stopped drinking it by 9.00 am.

Hopefully, you'll be on early and it will all be over before you know it. Make sure you take chargers for all your gadgets and some wipes to wipe over your face and neck when you wake up each morning. It's refreshing.

All the very best Jackie, you are probably out of Theatre now and on the road to recovery, we've all been through it. I just finished chemo for 1st line on Friday and am on Avastin until January so I am further along the road than you. Take care Sue xxx

No visitors is going to be tough on all of you, however the op itself is not nearly as bad as you have probably imagined. I was in four days and not much pain. Try and get up and do the walking as soon as you can, as it really does help with recovery and healing. If not shown ask about foot exercises to do while you are sitting as it helps with circulation. When you get home no heavy lifting, nothing heavier than a half full kettle to minimise the risk of a hernia.

Lots of rest and you will be up and about in no time, I was driving after 4 weeks. I used maternity jeans/trousers for a couple of months as the elastic panel that covers your tummy is kind on the scar. Take care be kind to yourself the house work/ironing etc really doesn't matter and will wait. Good Luck x

Was up and walking day after surgery. Had been given exercises to practice beforehand and a Spirometer to help with deep breathing to prevent infection

I was also up the day after surgery and also had a Spirometer and exercises to do before hand. Spirometer was delivered to my home as I'm shielding I was very impressed

Like others say the operation and recovery are much easier than you anticipate. I wasn’t in pain after and just needed to sleep and rest up a lot for the next six weeks. Best of luck with it!

surgery went very well, had review with consultant on Thursday he's very pleased with how everything went and the wound is healing lovely. Also said I'm recovering very well and will see me in 3 months after the next 3 cycles of chemo
