Niraparib Update..............

Hello Ladies, the Transfusion I had last Friday as done the trick and my Haemoglobin is up at 92, so I am going to restart Niraparib at a reduced dose of 200. No further forward in diagnosing my diarrhoea/constipation constant cycle just trying to not let it get me down. My bloods show I have very low Magnesium so the hospital have given me some supplement sachets to take, and advised me that they sometimes cause diarrhoea! for goodness sake!! Hope you are all feeling as well as you can. xx

Brilliant news Lyn. Upwards and onwards!!! So chuffed you can go back to Niraparib even if the bowels are playing up. Wishing you all the very best xxxx

Good news despite the bowel issues! There’s always some kind of challenge with this flipping disease!

Hi Lyn, pleased you’re feeling much better after the transfusion. Could it be the low magnesium causing the problem ? My bowels are all over the place at the moment and my magnesium is low as well, Kerry xx

Hi Kerry - it’s really hard to know what is causing my digestive issues, it is going to be a trial and error Scenario until I hit on the answer. I am going to stop taking Berberine and see if it makes any difference, I read that dark chocolate at least 70% cocoa is a good source of magnesium - at last a genuine reason to eat chocolate 😋 good luck XX

I have magnesium issues so also eating dark chocolate yum. I have to hunt for the 70% and above though not that easy to find. Good luck.

Hi Lyn

Glad to hear you are feeling better and hope the new dose of niraparib is much kinder to you, and the dark chocolate sounds like a fab idea to me,

Hugs

Lyn, dark chocolate is a laxative! Works pretty fast too. ;)

oh no really can't win can we!

My magnesium is always low. I am on Rucaparib. I have given up on the sachets since they made me feel sick. Am now on chewable peppermint tabs which I cope with much better. The nurse also suggested I buy over the counter magnesium supplements and take them every day. So I am trying that too. My bowels are also all over the place but I have a stoma so it is always hard to know why. I am also on the dark chocolate but didn’t know I had a medical excuse for it!

That’s sounding positive so onwards with the magnesium and hopefully your bowels will behave - if berberine behaves anything like the metformin it’s a natural “equivalent” to, then I’d think the digestive upsets could well be down to it as metformin notorious x

in reply toColdethyl

I also take Metformin so think I might be overdosing, my idea was if my glucose got down to an acceptable level I would remain on Berberine and ditch the Metformin. However taking both for over a year I am still pre-diabetic.

I used to take metformin ( probably need it again as post chemo I’ve not been a good girl ) but what got my numbers down was low carb diet - check out dr David unwin and his wife online - you don’t have to go Keto but replacing beige carbs with leafy greens and other lower carb veg worked wonders for me beyite cancer and the stoma

So glad Lyn. Soon, your focus will turn to stopping diarrhea (if it persists--I found the PARP I was on caused constipation!--and allowing you to return to the normal life with a pill, not an infusion. Lower dose may keep your blood levels behaving too! Wishing you a good re-start and no more issues with your hemaglobin! oxoxox Judy

If all is well I have to have my bloods done at the hospital on Monday, then I have a telephone appointment! how cool is that! certainly beats the 3 days in a row last week!!

Arghhh don't mention magnesium supplements to me!! 😄 They've put me back in hospital with mineral depletion! Keep having to have magnesium, phosphate, potassium and calcium infusions because the sachets have irritated my bowel that much that it's pouring out. Just had a better day from coming in on Monday. I feel your pain Lynn. Hope you get sorted. I'll let you know if they find some magic solution to it all.

Oh Sandra poor you! that sounds awful. Lets hope that magic solution appears today. 🤞 xx
