Hello I am looking for some advise please. Two years ago my mum was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer it was not any where else. She had six rounds of chemo and then surgery to remove her womb etc. She then had two more rounds of chemo after. Sadly she recently had a ct scan and it has revealed two spots approx. 1.5cm on the peritoneal, they was going to offer her surgery but done her a pet scan that revealed it had gone on the surface of the liver and a few lymph glands. So they have said she can only have chemo, it did respond well to this chemo last time. Mum is 79 very fit lady does any one know if just having chemo will get rid of this awful cancer or is there any more treatment she can have that we don't know about. Really would appreciate any help.

It is lovely that your mum has such a caring daughter. She is very lucky and blessed. I know how worried you must feel, but there are things you can do.
To answer your question, yes, chemo can get rid of your mum's cancer if she responds well. But likewise, there are other things that you can do and investigate.
My first suggestion would be that you seek a second opinion. I say that because when my cancer came back, the local hospital only offered me chemo and said there was nothing else they could do. And the cancer was also on my liver.
I sought a second opinion from a fantastic specialist in London and was booked in for surgery within a very short time. The surgery gave me a far better chance (we are all different), and they got all the cancer out of my liver.
You could always have a word with that team... They do pioneering work in London and I am probably only alive now because of them. So, yes there are things you can do and it might be nice to feel like you are helping your mum? I understand fully how it feels to not be doing anything.

Hi thank you so much for your reply did you have the same cancer on the peritoneal ? We have an appointment next Wednesday with the oncologist to see when her chemo will start. Hi mine was Ovarian, but very similar, it had spread to the Peritoneum.
Here is the name of the consultant I am under (and his team, Christina Fotopoulou etc). They are at Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea and in London, also Hammersmith (all under Imperial).

You can also see him for a private appointment, which I did for speed and it was absolutely worth it. Then (if you wish) you can be referred to the NHS if you want to go that route too. Or if you want to stay privately you can do that too. My op was then on the NHS and I had superb care there.

See if she can have IP chemo, intraperitinel chemotherapy, they incert a port attach to rib, then introduce chemo, directly into abdomen. It's done in the US. It can add 3 yrs before reoccurance, if ever. I was diagnosed in 2014, been cancer free since.best Best wishes and prayers for your mom.❤❤Liz
Hi Ali, if you're not quite comfortable with the recommendations for your mum it may be worth her seeking a second opinion.
Take heart, there are a lot of us here that are living for years with recurrent OC/Primary Peritoneal cancer that requires treatment when it starts misbehaving again.

I have primary peritoneal cancer that came back. When it came back I didn't want surgery as I'd had lots of complications the first time and the surgeon didn't want to operate again. I had carbo caelyx which reduced size of tumours but didn't get rid of them. Then went straight onto parp inhibitor niraparib and now tumours can't be seen on scan. There are options out there. Hi aliollie I was diagnosed in 2015, chemo surgery and more chemo, surgery complications so in treatment for a year, recurred in 2017 had chemotherapy then onto the Niraparib. I have now been on niraparib for two years with no recurrence.
I am 72 have been diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer also on omentum and peritoneum chemo will help shrink and they may then do surgery. Give your mum hugs and xx
