Hi, Nobody on this forum can say for certain that your wife is heading for a recurrence, what has yr wifes oncologist said, are they ordering a scan? I do hope that something else is causing this rise xx
Hi If your wife's oncologist is not available then there must be someone else who can book a scan for her. I would definitely contact the hospital to find out what they plan to do. Good luck, please let us know how you get on. Kathy xx
her CA 125 was elevated from 6 to 15 in Dec-2017. The oncologist prescribed her Tamoxifen for two months after which the CA 125 came down in next test.
As Kathy says no one here can diagnose a recurrence. From the profile it looks as though the CA125 is a good marker for her. However, this can be raised for other reasons such as a fever and inflammation.
It looks like a scan is the way forward to find out if anything is going on.
yes thanks. the last ct scan she had was in December 2017 when her CA 125 was elevated from 6 to 15. The oncologist prescribed her Tamoxifen for two months after which the CA 125 came down in next test.
Yes, indeed, a scan is the only way forward right now.
In the meantime, it is good to be prepared during this waiting period for the scan.
So, just in case, it’s nice to do some fun things in the meantime, wine and dine yourselves, socialise, etc and at the same time get your house in order in case your wife needs chemo and might not be up for too much housekeeping.
First recurrence Chemo is usually much more tolerable than first line. And usually works a treat.
So do not worry. Make your appointments and continue with your every day life with a few added treats just for the heck of it!
Thanks that is so much relief about tolerable chemo. I can now sleep well today.
After my wife's diagnosis in Jan-2017, I have been diagnosed of Hypothyroid, insomnia and IBS due to stress (no family history). The first six months were scary.
I hope everything goes quickly for you so you get the answers you need soon. Remember it is always possible to chase up your GP or CNS nurse if things are taking too long. As a couple of ladies above have said, a recurrence can usually be treated, so try not to worry too much just yet and spend time doing things you both enjoy. xx Nicky
Wife''s CT Scan update:- As per oncologists advice CT of thorax, chest and abdomen done. Following are the critical findings:
1) small hypoenhancing subcapsular lesion over the segment VII of the right hepatic lobe- appers subcapsular deposit
2) patchy areas of consolidation in bilateral lungs with coarse reticulondodular infiltrates and a prominent mediastinal lymphnoe - are infective
The first one means a possibility of cancer recurrence on liver.
The second means a possibility of Lung cancer though doubtful as my wife also has pnuemonia.
Oncologist has prescribed heavy Antibiotics (Amoxycillin) and cough syrup for pnuemonia that will clear her lungs and they will be able to correctly diagnose the lungs again.
Also after 7 days CA 125 on empty stomach.
If liver recurrence is confirmed then chemo... 7 days it seems like 7 years of sleepless nights.
Hope the antibiotics sort things out for your wife. I've had lesions that have turned out to be benign cysts or scar tissue. Let's hope this is the case for your wife. Thinking of you both. Try to plan nice things to do to blot out the anxiety as much as posdible. X
I can understand how 7 days can seem like 7 years of sleepless nights but you must try and relax so that your health does not get impacted. By worrying, you cannot change anything so it would help both you and your wife if you concentrate on doing whatever is needed for her to recover from the pneumonia. Is your wife eating properly and is she able to rest in order to recover from the pneumonia?
I was diagnosed with stage 4 OC in May 2012 and then had a recurrence in one mediastinal lymph node which showed up on a scan in Jan 2016 after my CA 125 started rising slightly in Nov 2015. I was monitored with periodic CT scans in 2016 and I decided to watch and wait because my quality of life was very good and I was not feeling unwell or had no other symptoms that caused me pain or discomfort. I finally had video assisted cardio-thoracic surgery in March 2017 when the whole lymph node was successfully removed and I did not need any further treatment. I see my oncologist every 5 months and at my appointment last week my CA 125 was 12 and I have no evidence of active disease. Therefore, even with a rise in CA 125 treatment can sometimes be delayed. It is important that you nd your wife look at all the possible options and then decide on what would be the best option of treatment for your wife.
I pray that your wife feels better soon and her tests come back positive. I pray that you can find some way of reducing your anxiety and wish you and your wife all the best. Take care and I am sending you both lots of positive healing energy 🙏
