Good afternoon Le-gra143
Thank you for your post. I'm sure some members of the forum community will be along shortly to share their experiences of CA125 testing but I just wanted to reply with this information which I hope will be useful.
Our information booklet titled 'tests for ovarian cancer' explains more about the role of CA125:
'The normal level is below 35. If the level is 35 or above it could indicate ovarian cancer – but it could also indicate much less serious conditions too, so further tests are needed.'
You can find the booklet here on our website: ovacome.org.uk/tests-for-ov... - or we can post this to you, free of charge, if you prefer?
Is there anything else about the CA125 test that you would like to know? We are here to support you so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to talk things through. You can message us directly here on the forum, email support@ovacome.org.uk or call our freephone support line on 0800 008 7054, Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm.
Best wishes

Apart from scan results can the ca125 markers be a positive??
Hi there Le-gra143
Thank you for your reply and questions.
CA125 testing is one of the tools used by healthcare professionals to help monitor response to treatment for ovarian cancer. This is alongside a thorough symptom review and imaging such as CT scans.
The Foundation for Women’s Cancer are a non-for-profit organisation based in the U.S, who support research, education, and public awareness of gynaecological cancers. I thought you may be interested in a booklet they published earlier this year titled ‘CA125 levels: Your guide’ which explains more about CA125 and how it is used in a clinical setting. It’s available to view via their website here: foundationforwomenscancer.o.... Please be aware that as this is a U.S resource, the organisations listed at the end may not be as relevant for those based outside of the U.S.
As we’re not clinically trained, I’m afraid we’re unable to interpret CA125 results but I wondered whether you have had an opportunity to discuss these with your oncologist or clinical nurse specialist at all? They should be able to provide you with some personalised advice and reassurance in relation to your individual medical history. We would be very happy to help you plan or prepare for any future appointments, if you think this could be useful?
I hope this is helpful. Please do let us know if you have any other questions or if there’s anything further we may be able to support you with.
Best wishes

Is it wise to do CEA test as well in addition to CA125 and HE4 if I can find someone that does He4 in this country?
Good morning Ova104
Thank you for your question. The recommended tumour markers to be taken vary from person to person and depend on a range of different factors. Your clinical team should be able to provide you with some personalised advice regarding which tests are most suitable for your individual circumstances. It's not common for CEA to be measured for people with high grade serous ovarian cancer but for those diagnosed with mucinous ovarian cancer, this marker can be more relevant. We have some information about mucinous ovarian cancer here on our website: ovacome.org.uk/mucinous-ova... .
We are aware that some people choose to access HE4 testing privately, but we aren’t able to offer any recommendations for clinics that offer these services. We do however encourage people to ensure that the service is reputable by reviewing Care Quality Commission (CQC) reports which can be found here: cqc.org.uk/care-services.
I hope this is useful. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any other queries of if there's anything else we may be able to assist with.
Best wishes

thank you very much for your help I was reviewing this company here but republic of ireland based.
Yes
My oncologist gyno surgeon says normal is 0-30. Higher is only an indicator.
My CA 125 , average is usually btwn 6-7 based on labs. Stay positive I've been cancer free 10 yrs this April 2024. I was stage 3c2. Clear cell. Hopefully this gives hope to some. 💜.
Yes, below 35 is normal. But some women with ovarian cancer have normal levels of CA125, so it's not reliable and not enough to rule out (or in) ovarian cancer.
Anywhere up to 35.
