It’s done!

The op is over....Thank goodness for that. They managed to get all of the cancer visible and removed my spleen and gall bladder. Recovery has been tough this time but I hope to go home and start again getting my strength back enough to carry on. The London Hospital is brilliant esapecially the HDU unit where I was looked after by their marvellous nursing team. The ward is busier and the staff have litttle time for us. So it’s back to basics...Sending love to you all x

That’s amazing!

So happy for you that you found the right surgeon.

I know it’s no fun living in the aftermath of a major operation, but at least you have had great care so far.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hugs,

Laura

Well done Gill and hope you get home soon to your comfy bed and can recover swiftly. Not easy having your gall bladder and spleen out but we don’t need those anyway and great to hear the surgeon got it all, glad you’ve had good care at the hospital our NHS really are marvellous and I too was so grateful for the treatment I received.

Hope you recover well and wishing you lots of healing and happiness ahead!

That's good news, Gill. I've had second laparotomy surgery as well for my recurrence, and I hope you recover without any issues, as I did.

Will you have chemo after?

I’m really struggling this time. I had just forgotten how bad it makes you feel ......

It's mostly the first few days, right? Then it gets easier (once the tubes are gone, the stomach settles and the bowels wake up) . Hold on... not that much longer now until you feel human again. Sending a virtual hug. Maus

I can’t remember quite what “human” feels like anymore. Crikey! You’ve had a lot of this awful surgery. But then again, it does save lives and give us some hope 🌻

Hi Gill fab news. I had major surgery too in January. Spleen. Omentum and gall bladder and part of small bowel removed. 9 hr operation but they got all the visible cancer too. It took me 8 weeks to start eating normal again and stop feeling sick. I had 3 more chemo then scan and have had the all clear and feeling normal again. I wish you all the best in the future. Keep your chin up and keep positive you will get there. XXXX

Thank you this is just what I needed to hear. My op was almost identical to yours and I’m feeling traumatised by the whole thing. This post gives me hope x

I know how you feel Gill. I was too traumatised. Not sure whether you have a stoma too but even that took weeks to start working normal. When I came home from hospital I never thought I'd ever be able to keep any food down let alone eat! Just went completely off my food and never had an appetite. The weight just fell off me. My energy levels were that low I struggled to get up the stairs and all in all had 3 blood transfusions and 4 magnesium fusions. Now 6 months down the line my weight is going back up, I'm enjoying my food and life again, and walk every day for an hour. You will get there Gill, I guarantee it. Just keep the faith - little steps at a time. You will get back to enjoying life and feeling normal again and less traumatised as time goes by. Any questions, just ask me anytime. Here for you. xx

Thank you again. I had a large op nearly 5 years ago and had a stoma then. It’s never given me any problems (well sometimes but not often) I had just got my life back on track when during a routine 6 month check, my CA125 spiked a bit which started this all over again. I still feel in shock and am finding it much more difficult this time. Did you get any back/side pain after your gallbladder was removed. I’ve been in a lot of pain today, feels like a stitch in my side when I move. Gilly x

Hi Gill, I did have a little back pain and twinges and it lasted about 2 weeks off and on. I think the pain you are describing could be wind as this goes to the back and side and.yes I had exactly the same and i can tell you it was painful. Don't forget you've been opened up to the elements. The doctor told me to try and walk as much as possible as it helps disburse it and drink lots of water which did help. I guess I'd feel exactly the same as you when you were told about your recurrence and it must have been so upsetting for you but stay positive now as its good and very positive news that your surgeon as got it all. Did you have any symptoms or was it just the CA125 was spiked a little? I think you are doing so well Gill and I know you'll get through this and get your life back on track. June.xx

Lockygill in reply to win_56

I had no symptoms and was so well. Been on a couple of holidays so looked well too. That’s why it was such a shock. I am hoping my back stops hurting soon as everything else seems to be going fine at the moment. Thanks for you encouraging words June.

Gill x
