Well done! Glad itās behind you. I was very lucky with sickness but you should ask for anti sick meds if you havenāt got them and keep drinking water. The oromorph you get for pain relief can make you sick... so try to avoid if possible... hope it eases really soon xx
Hiya, Iām so sorry to hear you had a poor first night home after your operation. rest is important as it allows the body that has been through so much, to heal and recover. I suggest you get in touch with the hospital or your CNS they can give you the best help & donāt be afraid to ask for different meds. Take things very slowly and one day at a time. Be kind to yourself and eat what you fancy when you want and keep drinking as much as you can.
Sending a virtual hug.

Itās very kind of you to even post a reply. I can offer you no words of experience as this is all new to me, but I do want to send you very best wishes, and hope you soon feel more comfortable. Kindest regards.
Hi. You will feel better day by day but as others have said getting the right anti nausea meds is key. Also staying on top of constipation! Iām not sure what itās called in the UK but I like Zofran/ondensatron for nausea. You may need several meds for it. It may be a reaction to the anesthesia and/or pain meds. I hope You start to feel better soon!
Good to hear the surgery is over. At least now it's out of the way and you can start to recover. The sickness sounds horrible. If you can't tolerate oral antisickness meds at the moment, ask for them by intramuscular injection (jab into leg/arm). They really should get on top of it for you. Hope you're improving since yesterday. xx
I felt very sick and had issues eating for a couple of weeks after my op, I had a bowel resection at the same time which exacerbated it I think. Ondansetron was brilliant for me but it can cause constipation so it was a balancing act between that and laxatives. It does pass and I found as soon as the nausea went away my appetite picked up. Hang on in there itās early days, it will improve x x.
I was also really sick after my surgery & it makes you weak & every hurdle feels overwhelming. I was told to eat as much protein as possible and that seemed to work. My son was home & made a choice of high protein foods and I ate whatever didn't make me feel sick & he ate the rest. I was too uncomfortable to sleep well at night - I have a shoulder injury that really didn't help - so needed to have a couple of proper naps during the day to make up sleep. I had a good book on the go & would read in the night & sometimes even watch TV. After about 10 days I remember the excitement of waking in the morning having had my first 'proper' night of sleep. You WILL get there, it just takes time. Definitely take your movicol & drink lots - that's another source of pain you can do without. Best wishes - will be thinking of you.
The lack of sleep AND food is hard ! Iāve had to get some Senokot coz the movical was constantly turning my stomach so hopefully that will do the job!!
Hello, sorry to hear your first night didnāt go well at home. I was in a similar situation when i first came home. It takes a few days to work out how to get comfy (I usually sleep on my side so struggled on my back.) Like you i also suffered really badly any time Iāve had surgery with sickness/loss of appetite. Found anti sickness tablets helped massively. Your appetite will come back so donāt worry about that. Wishing you a speedy recovery
I was exactly the same, sick all the time in hospital and when I got home constipated and could not lie on my back. Wihin a couple of days you will feel better. The not lieing on my back lasted about 4 weeks. I think being home helps, but do try and eat, it's really important for getting better. Hope this helps you. Sue xx
Hi, I had surgery 3 months ago- radical hysterectomy, spleen removed and lots of other bits scraped etc. It was about 10-11 hours op. I am 53 ( telling you this to give you a benchmark). I am still quite physically weak and sometimes need a sleep in daytime but that may be chemo. My advice is same as other ladies, be kind to yourself, take it very gently and try to eat nutritional food that appeals. I wasn't too sick after surgery but have not wanted to eat during chemo and just had to rationalize that I need to eat nutritional food in small amounts. Good luck xxx
