Mum's CA125 is 9!!

Hi Everyone.

Mum saw her onc yesterday for her latest three month check and her CA125 was 9. She couldn't believe it. Me neither. She said she finished third line chemo in July 2017 (I can't remember date!) - Carbo/Taxol - and her CA125 was 11 for a couple of times then it went up to 14 at the last three month check which made me panic so such relief when she told me it was now 9!! Just wanted to share this positive news with you.

Sending hugs. Jane XXX

Hi Lind. Yes, long may it continue! Mum lives in three monthly instalments!! How is your mum doing? I meant to reply to your post about watch and wait. My mum was on watch and wait after she finished her second line Caelyx. I must admit it was a nerve-wracking time! Sending hugs. Jane X

My mom is doing okay so far, she’s just had her 4th infusion and is refusing the Avastin. At this point I am putting my trust in her oncologist and praying for the best. Her oncologist made a point she said about 70% reoccur but about 30% do not. She can be apart of that 30% - god willingly. Can only hope and pray everything will be ok🙏🏽 I just got married over the weekend and she looked stunning, danced all night and was truly herself. I can only hope to have her around for a very long time. Wishing your mom the very best, your story has given me hope.

Hi Ellsey. Yes, best news ever. Looking forward to spending a week with mum at the beginning of the Easter hols, and another mothers' day. Didn't know how many of those there would be when she was diagnosed at the end of 2013!! Hope you are doing OK. Jane XX

I hope you have a lovely time with your daughter and grandchildren. I live just down from the Scottish border. I love Scotland. From Birmingham originally. Mum's still in the West Midlands. I'm so looking forward to seeing her. Jane XX

JanePW1965 in reply to Neona

Hi Neona. Yes it is great news! How are you doing? I hope the numbness in your hands improves. Mum's right foot is numb and we think it was caused by her last lot of chemo - the Plaxitel (can never spell that!) part. Best wishes. Jane x

Neona in reply to JanePW1965

I am having problems with my treatment because of suspected pneumonitis so have been taken off the trial at the moment. The numbness in fingers has improved so it could have been caused by the trial drugs- or maybe it is because the weather is warmer. Iam on a massive dose of steroids which don’t seem to be doing much so pretty worried about my options.

Oh gosh Neona, how worrying for you. Mum had an allergic reaction to the steroids and didn't like them at all. I really hope your oncologist can come up with some more options for you. Sending positive vibes. Jane X

Oh that’s terrific news! Isn’t it so great to hear that magic low number. Can feel your relief.

Wish my mum was on 3 month checks - hers are 6 months & it seems a lifetime between apt’s. Although her ca125 has been low for getting on for 3 yrs now, it feels too long for S4.

Your mum has done so well! All the best.

Phew Deborah. I can imagine you being anxious with the six month checks. I would be too. Sounds like your mum's doing really well for S4. Did she have one course of chemo? Mum was diagnosed at 3C. I hope your mum's CA125 stays low and that she remains stable. The appointments are nerve-wracking aren't they. I go with mum as often as I can but I live over 200 miles away and work so can't always make it but she has lots of friends who help. I think I get more nervous than mum!! Best wishes. Jane X

Yes my lovely mum has only had first line (carbo/taxol/avastin) & has done really well not to recur so far.

Her ca125 was 6 just b4 Xmas but next apt not til June, ages. It’s been a v good indicator for her so like torture waiting to hear that number! Last time the Onc told us before she’d even shut the door! I’m always exhausted after - mum seems calm but pretty sure she hides it from me.

Even when she was on 3 mthly checks they wouldn’t do the ca125 each time - just makes no sense to me. I’m sure the 6 mthly apts are cost cutting & due to the huge number of patients...

Got everything crossed our mums keep well xx

Hi Deb. Makes you wonder if the six monthly checks are a cost cutting exercise. Even though your mum is doing really well, I can understand you getting anxious. I would have thought your mum would have had three monthly checks at this stage. Here's hoping our mums stay well! Sending hugs. Jane XX

We do love them so much. Sometimes I feel like the roles have reversed and now it's my turn to care for mum. I remember one time when I was staying with mum and she'd lost her hair, I went to say goodnight to her in bed and she looked so vulnerable, I could have cried. I probably did! But to look at her now you just wouldn't believe what she's been through!! Sending hugs. XX
