A little update, Mum's CA125 has risen from 6 to 14.

I had posted earlier this week that mum had a UTI, and so got a CA125 as a precaution. Today she found out it has risen to 14. The GP said not to worry as it was still within normal limits, her next check up with the Onc is in 3 months. I am slightly reassured that it is low, but slightly alarmed that it has risen. Not sure how much difference a different lab can make in these things. She said she has been feeling poorly and her tummy is still very large, it has been even since the TAH. But she is putting it down to the UTI, and says she is starting to feel better with the antibiotics.

They are both low figures. I know it's hard to watch on. Love to you. T xx

Any infection is going to raise the CA125. Sandra had a UTI before xmas and her CA rose slightly, it was then followed by Cholangitis with a further increase but her last blood result showed a decrease post the infection. However any significant increase should be double checked by a CT scan. Perhaps the GP could retest the CA in the next month. Test do differ between labs but only by a small amount. Love Paul xx

The CA125 may be risen because of the UTI which I am sure is making your mum feel poorly. Try not to worry. Ann

It is not only within but well within. Any infection can raise CA125 which is not just about OC at all but a protein marker that rises if there is inflammation anywhere - and a UTI certainly causes that! Trends are the only thing they look for therefore - another test in a few months may well show a dip or another in-normal reading

Thank you all for your thoughtful and reassuring replies. I will try not to worry. It has been so wonderful to see her start claiming her life back after the chemo, in a way I never dared hope for. Being given more time with her has been a gift, and I will let her know all of your responses so she can be reassured too xxx

My last CA125 was 40, having risen steadily from 34 ever since my last chemo in September, but as my CT scan a couple of weeks ago showed NED, my onc isn't worried and is happy that the CA125 is stable, so I'm not worried either. Hope this gives you some reassurance. Best wishes to your mum.

Just to agree with others. A UTI could certainly cause this very modest rise. It is still very normal. Am retired GP, as well as having cancer, if that helps. It will probably be back down next time.
