Hello , I got some good news on Friday during my chemo session I think, the sister on the department said that my numbers from the CA125 blood test have dropped a lot. From 931 when I first found out in March to 335 today! Something must be working, which is great news. I know I still have a long way to go, and hopefully fingers crossed, the CT scan I'm having on Tuesday will show that it is shrinking as well, it was 16.5cm in March. Does anyone have any idea how low the numbers or size have to be before they will operate. I have been told I will need a full hysterectomy and debulking, and then at least two rounds of chemo afterward. Thanks very much xxx

As far as I'm aware it's the size of the tumour and whether it's in the way of vital organs which dictates how successfully the surgeon feels he can operate.

They would commonly send you for a CT or MRI then once they are happy a pet ct prior to surgery to see if there is disease in any remote areas. Chemo after is for mopping up

Your CA level should fall further once the cancer is removed. It’s dependent on a blood supply to grow so that would be part of the purpose

Hi Tay, my tumour had shrunk by half & the Surgeon seemed very pleased!! My CA125 numbers had halved too. I think the surgeons are pleased to see any reduction and it makes the surgery easier for them, although it is still a big Op. I think the Oncology Surgeons are amazing 🙂 Thank God for them!! ❤️❤️

Hi, Tay100. In my case in 2015, my 10cm tumor had actually leaked out the ascites. My CA125 was well over 3500. I had my surgery (debulking and hysterectomy) right away and then 6 sessions of Chemo to follow. Guess they wanted to get all that toxic liquid out of me asap.

It sounds like good news that your numbers are responding to the chemo and then the surgery will be that much more successful as the tumour shrinks. Wishing you all the best. You will get through this with flying colors!
