Hello all you wonderful women out there... please can you help.. I have been suggested for my 4th round of chemo Cisplatin / Etoposide.
I looked the registra in the eye and said I had heard this was a tough regime: he looked straight back and said “yes - it is” now I’m nervous enough as my body feels like it’s been through the ringer the last 6 months on Carbo / Caelyx and I ended up in A&E on 5 separate occasions for various side effects. And it didn’t work I’m exhausted and not sure if this is going to be something I can handle.have any of you experienced this and can you tell me the side effects please? Honesty is required here as I would really appreciate that! Thank you so so much - Xxx

Yes, I had the first instalment of this regime on 12th April (it's called the Rotterdam, and if you put that in the search box you will find more about it). I was Ok for the 3 days on steroids, then I was just unlucky - got shingles, then a diarrhoea infection, for which I was hospitalised getting IV antibiotics. Bowel problems have continued and they're not sure if it's because of all the antibiotics, the cancer or the chemo, so my treatment has been suspended till they give me a colonoscopy. I may go back on it if all is ok, but yes, it is tough. You asked for honesty! Maybe your body needs a rest, but your onc will advise.
I’ve been offered the same but have said no at the moment. I’m trying hormone therapy instead as my oncologist said it was a case of choosing quality or quantity. I’ve chosen quality because I need a break from chemo and I’ve also been told it’s a very tough regime. I hope whatever you choose goes well for you. I haven’t ruled it out completely but hoping for the best with something diffferent for now.
Dear Becky - thank you so much for replying. Are you taking tamoxifen or something stronger? I understand your reluctance to go on this completely amdnreally wish you goodnresults on the hormone therapy. Keep in touch this seems a good forum - and I so appreciate your answer thank you.
I was on tamoxifen for a year and it had very few side effects for me the cancer grew very very slowly and perhaps that’s what kept it at bay for so long but not heard of magace: I shall google pronto! The cisplatin Rotterdam regime sounds hectic and I am not sure I have the strength for that right now... thank you again so much for replying I do appreciate it. X

Well I’ve been on it a week. No idea if it’s working yet but all I can say is I feel better than I have in ages!!! Touch wood no side effects, appetite is back and I am getting out and about a bit xx
me also on Rotterdam.... just had 5th out of possible 6 treatments so slightly better experience than Christine so far.....
Yes it's tough no doubt and coming 3 months after recurrence from 18 weeks of taxol with all its side effects does the body no favours at all...
But no specific additional health issues and immune system has held up well apart from an additional week off with a cold infection.
My CA 125 has dropped from 4000+ to 116 which is lowest ever and I am hoping the ct scan at the end of May will confirm that it has overall been a positive treatment and reduced disease again...
Only that confirms...and then for how long ( this is also is my 4 th line)
I think you have made right decision given all your other issues....so hard to do......best of luck
Dear Janet - you are a brave warrior to be getting through this from the sound of it! And already at no 5 out of 6 : that is remarkable. And that your CA125 is so low that is fantastic news. I so wish you a very very long break before any other t treatment at all if at all- we always need hope! Please keep us posted and thank you so much for replying!
