Hi . Just had hospital on to tell me the results of my biopsy last week . Came out as high grade serious. According to google this is the type with the lowest survival rate . Seeing consultant on Monday , to book my plan at the Christie on Monday.

Any comments please.

Firstly, sending you a big hug. Secondly the most important advice I can offer is don't google. Google can't tell you what will happen to you. You are not a statistic, you are YOU, unique. I was told I had a couple of years, 'your prognosis is not good'. Well I am now in my eleventh year and despite 2no recurrences am currently NED (no evidence of disease), working full time etc. My mum, same stage as me was told she had 5 years tops. Never recurred. Did unfortunately succumb to a new primary cancer but not for 14 years. Stop, take a deep breath, try to relax and not overthink anything, Oh that all sounds so easy and I know how hard it is believe me, but you have a few days to go and you need to muster your strength. When Monday comes the guys at the Christies (a wonderful bunch of people) will put your treatment plan in place. Take care xx Kathy xx

High grade serous is the fastest growing but also the most responsive to chemo I've been told by my team. I am also grade 3c high grade serous. Do not despair . My ca125 came down from 10600 to 23

That's one heck of a drop and I'm enjoying life to the full. Onwards and upwards xx

Hi. I am also high grade serous one year on from diagnosis, with a very good response to chemo/surgery. Life is precious ❣️ The Christie is world renowned. ATB for your appointment. Linda 🌷

Hi. As Kathy said google can not help the information on survival is so out of date and you are indeed not a statistic, Like a lot of ladies when I was diagnosed I was told I would not see the year out that was near 4 years ago.

Once you talk with your team and have a plain in place you will feel more positive.

take care keep in touch ..Lorraine xx

Avoid Dr Google like the plague, it will make you ill.

A majority of us with OC have HGS.

It tends to respond better to chemo than some other types.

There are many more clinical trials for it than for other sub-types of OC.

Increasingly doctors are understanding that within big categories like HGS, there are subsets. There's quite a lot of research going on looking at drugs which work particularly well for which ones.

All reasons to be cheerful.

We're individuals, not statistics. Stats are always running behind where we are now and are made up of individuals who have very different experiences.

Chin up! Don't despair.

Stay off doctor google please, he’s really not very good at all and you’ll just scare yourself unnecessarily as the information is so out of date, somewhat generic and it isn’t specific to you. The type of cancer you have is the most responsive to the chemo so that should be encouraging for you .

When you go to the Christie they will discuss your particular cancer with you and that’s part of the key, your cancer is yours so the statistics on the internet don’t apply. The staff are fabulous at Christies and will answer all the questions you have, they’re the experts and will put a plan of action in place for you, they’ll do lots of tests and then discuss all the options with you. I know this is scary and going to Christies is scary but once you’ve been there you’ll realise that you’re in the care of the best place you can be.

All the best for your appointment, once you have a plan of action in place you’ll feel like you’re taking back some control. Big hugs and love from one manc to another ❤️Xx Jane

Hi there

I just want to confirm what everyone else is advising . First of all step away from Google ! For the moment , as later you can use it when you are looking for more positive information . Like many people I am a stage 3c high grade serous lady with PPC diagnosed in 2011 with a CA125 of 8000. I responded really well to chemo and I’m still here in 2018 despite lymph node involvement in 2016. Responded once again to chemo. I just want to repeat what the other ladies have told you. High grade serous responds very well to chemo .

At the moment I’m being treated for a totally unrelated Lobular Breast Cancer . That was just sheer bad luck as my doctors said. However I remain optimistic that I will get through both. I want to wish you the very best in your treatment. The ladies here are amazing and will answer any questions you may ask. Take care

Hi there

As mine is Primary Peritoneal Cancer and there was no solid tumour it was inoperable when I was diagnosed . You probably know that the peritoneum is the membrane that surrounds all the organs in the pelvic area and it was just dotted with cancer cells. I asked not be given a prognosis at the time and accepted that Carboplatin/Taxol was the way to go for me. I do know that most of the women on here have a combination of surgery and chemo as that would be the standard approach. I have often wondered if surgery had been an option for me if the outcome would have been different but that’s just useless speculation. Of course I eventually googled the prognosis of PPC and by then I had gone way past my sell by date ! In answer to your question how often did I have chemo , it was every three weeks for six sessions. It was very doable for me and to lose my hair to gain my life was a small price to pay.

If surgery is part of your treatment there are so many women on here with a wealth of knowledge and practical advice . When it comes to chemo I will be very happy to help . Be kind to yourself and I found that joining a support group was really helpful . I see that you are going to a top hospital so you can be sure you will get top class treatment. Keep in touch and just take one day at a time . Take care
