Has anyone had severe upper back pain radiating around the ribs a few days after having a blood transfusion? Also unexplained chills-temperature is normal?
Blood transfusion: Has anyone had severe upper... - My Ovacome
Blood transfusion
Hi Neona, I was wondering if your pain has something to do with your blood production. Majority of blood production is done in your marrow. Which might account for some back pain. Check with your Doctor, of course. Just a thought. Sharon
No, I’ve not had any of these symptoms,
This sounds like medical enquiry. I would speak to your Dr.

Yes will speak to him- am a little better this morning-was excruciating last night.
I hope you feel better today. Please let me know how you get on? Xx
More and more I think I'm having a mild allergic reaction- prickly eyes, constantly running nose but no sore throat and still this awful back pain. Doesn't get better- just stays the same. Have hospital appointment on Wednesday.
My first transfusion took place when I was in hospital to stabilise my condition between Chemo infusions.
I was supposed to be discharged the next day, but woke up with a weird feeling in my chest and a phlegmy cough. I told the Onc I was feeling weird and they started me on antibiotics even before test results showed an infection that was NOT there the day before.
I had another transfusion after surgery and had no bad reaction from it.
However, years before, my infant daughter had several transfusions and after each one, she came down with flu like symptoms. I thought this might be some slight allergic reaction to the strangers blood.
I still think so.
But the transfusions saved her life and enabled me to continue Chemo. So let your doc know your symptoms and even if they are not related, get help.
Best if luck,
Laura
Thanks this is interesting as I had phlegm almost straight away after the infusion. They monitored me at the time and all seemed good though. I was getting in a panick last night but feel a bit better this morning so am guessing I had a minor infection.
During my debulking surgery I had to have a blood transfusion. For the next day or 2, I had the most awful itchy feeling on my skin all over my body ,but no rash and I felt a bit under the weather. I did not realise at the time, but the Doc told me a few days later that even though the blood is matched , it is not yours and so you will always have a slight reaction to it in an allergic sense. That would account for odd symptoms and since everyone is different, there will be a range of possible symptoms. Hope that helps.
