‘Melon’ & no I’m not pregnant

Hi all - I am new to Ovacome and have not been diagnosed with OC. I recently went to see my Doctor about some severe abdominal pain I had been experiencing - no pain relief was working and it was causing me restless sleep and horrible nausea. During the abdo. Assessment my Dr. Asked if I was pregnant - haha, yeah right! He felt a significant mass in my central pelvic area it was tender on palpation. So was my R) upper quadrant where the pain seemed to originate. He sent a referral through the public system to have an USS. After waiting 2 weeks I paid $250 to have the scan done privately. The sonographer saw the mass right away and seemed some what alarmed and said we’d need to do a trans-vaginal scan. The measurements were 10cm X 15cm, complex mass, possibly arising from the L) ovary. She asked if I had a follow up appointment with my Dr. & said that an urgent report would be sent. It was close to closing time, so I messaged my Dr. who said I needed to get some urgent blood tests. This was all on Friday - now it’s Tuesday and the bloods which were CA125 have come back in normal ranges (11U/mL). Now I have to wait for a CT scan and specialist appointment. It’s horrible waiting! My Dr. said to mentally prepare myself for surgery. I am a night shift nurse and I have had pain & pressure on my R) hip & tailbone, nausea & abdo. Pain, I can’t eat a lot as I feel full quicker (which is probably a good thing as I am overweight). I’m a 37 year old, single mum and my children and I are a little worried. We named my tumour ‘Melon’ - cause we didn’t like the word ‘Tumour’. Hopefully Melon comes out soon!! And that he doesn’t have any nasty friends or family hiding somewhere inside.

HI, I'm glad you found his site we have and have had some awesome ladies all too willing to give you support, it is a hard time waiting for results, please do not google for information this will only upset you and it's all outdated. you are better off asking advice from the ladies on here and off course your team, I'm sure as soon as you know the facts and a plain is in place you will feel better.

Take care of yourself and your beautiful girls keep in touch..Lorraine xx💙💙

Welcome! Good advice already from Lorraine. Try not to worry too much. Your CA125 results look encouraging. This waiting time is the worst, but at least you're now part of a process. There's lots of other stuff can go wrong in our insides..... Good luck x

You have already received some good advice.

I'm one of a few men who monitor and post on this forum as a non-medical person, but as caregiver who lost my spouse to OvCa. My photo shows my wife who I lost two and a half years ago. I'm Dennis, not Denise.

I would recommend you get one of the symptom diaries or tracking sheets to note the symptoms on a daily basis. There are a couple different sites that offer them.

There are several common symptoms, with variation being partly due to the 60 different varieties of Ovarian cancer.

In large surveys, four common symptoms came up more frequently, which include Bloating, Eating and feeling full too soon, Abdominal pain, and Trouble (or changes) in your Bladder and Bowels.

An easy acronym for these symptoms is B E A T.

DoctorOz.com has a tracking chart that covers five weeks (undated), so you can print one sheet for each month.

He also has a family genealogy chart for noting cancers that have occured in both your mother and father's families, which can be used to confirm who should receive genetic testing for higher risks for specific cancers.

If the bloating persists for more than 12 or 13 days per month, take the tracking chart to your next medical appointment along with your list of questions.

Best wishes for a quick diagnosis and eliminating your pain.

Thank you all very much for your kind words and understanding. I continue to wait for appointments to be made and am looking ahead getting things sorted - hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. I am reviewing my last will and testament and ensuring my insurance will be sufficient, etc. Am looking into getting the CT done privately. For my piece of mind more than anything. My nurse manager called me yesturday and she is looking ahead also, which is great, but the news she had for me was not so good. She said that I may very well be looking at some significant time off and that I do not have any more sick leave available to me, she said that I would not be able to get fulltime paid sick leave, I guess that's what insurance is for right? This was the last thing on my mind as I was feeling very sorry for myself and the pain that I was still experiencing, which remains unresolved, my Dr. keeps prescribing codeine and tells me not to take ibuprofen. I have been sleeping a lot and I can't imagine that's a good thing. I'm not sure I will be able to continue doing the night-shift and wonder if this masked some of my symptoms (fatigue is kind of the norm. with night shift). Thanks again everyone - I truly appreciate your kind words of encouragement. I may very soon rely heavily on them. Love and light to all xx
