2nd chemo another reaction 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤢. They've removed taxol just carboplatin today. I hope they can find a good alternative?????

My Taxol was reduced by 20% because of peripheral neuropathy and I've read about others who've had it stopped completely for the same reason. From what I've read on here, it's the platinum drug that does most of the work. I'm sure your team will have a plan.

Hi Zena,

What kind of reaction was it? In my 2nd round, I had an anaphylactic reaction to taxol after about 2mins of the infusion. Once I came round, they did the carboplatin, and in round 3 they tried docetaxel on me, which is a relative of taxol. It was fine. At each round I had a mini-reaction to it - a passing tightness in the chest, a handful of rashy-spots, but never anything as bad as the reaction to taxol. It did the job for me.

Yaaay vicki so least they have another alternative. Cheered me well up as I had no answers today. Feel like I've lost my hair for no reason and only getting half a job done 😘

Hi Zena, I had a reaction similar to that on first go with Taxol. They said it was so severe they wouldn't challenge me with Taxol (either Paclitaxel or Docetaxel ) just Carbo alone. However in UK Abraxane is given is such situations. It's a similar drug but bound with albumen instead of delivered in a solvent. It's licence here for other cancers but I don't know if it's licensed for O.C. Anybody else know??

When I had first line I decided only to have carboplatin. The reason why was because the first oncologist I met told me about two studies. The first was an American study that provided some evidence that the both together were more effective. However that was a second European study which indicated that the benefit of adding taxol was marginal. When I moved back to Manchester I asked them about these two studies and they agreed so I decided only to have carboplatin

Don't feel like you are being cheated sometimes less is more. The last thing you want for your little girl is to be killed off during treatment

Zena, you're certainly not a failure when your body reacts to a toxic POISON!!!! Towards the end of my first line treatment I ended up skipping the taxol twice due to illness and a serious rash. I'm in my 13th month of remission. I was given anti nausea meds, antihistamines and steroids BEFORE each infusion, which worked quite well.

Z, there are lots of options. Do not despair! Your oncologist will have a plan for you.

Please don't worry, I was exactly same as you, reaction to taxol 2nd infusion they refused to try again. I was so worried but they assured me they would find something else and put me on gemcitabine with carbo. No problems at all and working well as after 2 doses they decided they could operate which I didn't really think would happen. Take care, I'm sure something will work and possibly like me, get an even better outcome. xxx

I'm on carbo only. It's used a lot as single agent. As Taxol is a harsh drug and only does 5% of the work I'm sure you'll do just as well

All the nurses on the chemo unit were sad for me which only makes you think the works.

Our bodies and our cancers are each unique. What works for one of us doesn't necessarily work for the next person. There are plenty of cancer killing meds to try. Keep the faith and enjoy your day. LIVING well is a good pastime and lowers cortisol, a stress hormone.

This chemo sends me into negative mode I'm sure it does! All I keep thinking is all the long termers on here have had taxol.

Hi Dena sorry you had such a reaction but hopefully your Onc has a plan B for you. That had to be scary. But look hair will grow back and next one won't be as toxic

Don't panic Zena, I also had it stopped on some of my visits due to peripheral neuropathy. There is always a back up plan you just don't know what it is yet. You don't want to die from the drug. There will be an alternative. Chin up. xxZena
