Hi Amanda, I'm sorry, I can't be of any help. Are they going to biopsy the cysts to check? Ann x

Dear amanda68

Some types of ovarian cysts are caused by endometriosis. This does not mean they are cancerous. There is information about ovarian cysts on the NHS Choices website here: nhs.uk/conditions/ovarian-c...

There is a certain type of ovarian cancer called endometrioid ovarian cancer which is associated with endometriosis. This is rare and only makes up 5% of ovarian cancers. Ovarian cysts are much more common than ovarian cancer.

As thesilent1 suggests, it may be helpful to contact your doctor and ask them what the plan is going forward, so they can confirm for you the type of cyst in your ovary, so you know what you are dealing with.

I hope this is helpful but please do get in touch if there is anything else we can help with, either through the forum or email support@ovacome.org.uk or call 0800 008 7054 10am-5pm Monday-Friday.

Best wishes

Hi amanda68

It may be that your cyst is bleeding. Did your doctor use the term haemorrhagic cyst at all? This means a cyst which is bleeding.

I've seen that the plan is for MRI, this is often undertaken for ovarian cysts when the ultrasound cannot confirm the type of cyst. This can be the case for cysts which are bleeding because the quality of the MRI imaging is better than ultrasound for bleeding cysts. The MRI should help the team diagnose the type of cyst for you so you have some answers.
