Had a pain in my right side under ribs for a few days still on chemo last one wed keep thinking it's went to my liver half way through chemo Got a scan came back good treatment working on carbo and taxol should be feeling happy with last chemo being wed but this pain has made me worryed xxx

Hi, have you strained your ribs at all that you can think of? ive had a similar pain for a while and turned out its prob ligament strain or a cracked ribs following a bad cold (coughing and sneezing). if your scan is good then thats good news xx

You know the chemo does upset our tummies, I am glad the scan looks fine, Would you try some Maalox to see if that helps, also peppermint tea, it could well be a digestive problem caused by chemo. Originally here we were armed with Nystatin to stop any inflamations from mouth to bum but now this practice has been withdrawn. If you can also drink an actimel a day and if this doesnt help, it could be a muscle strain or scar tissue. I have noticed recently that with scan and mri they will tell you what is on the scan but wont say what is causing the pain if there is nothing obvious. It could well be the chemo as I said

I've had a similar pain, I've had a really bad cough and think that's the the cause of mine as it's getting better as the cough goes. Have you had this rubbish cough? Could you have strained yourself doing something? If your scan was ok I wouldn't worry too much but it's obviously worrying you so I'd suggest you speak to your oncology team for reassurance. Thanks everyone going to speak to them about it on Wed it's funny how every little pain we think the worst just going to focus on that wed the 8th my last chemo the day after my 50th birthday am going to look at it as my birthday cocktails xxx

You bring up a very good topic... It seems to me after reading that so many of us have these odd pains under our rib-cage after chemo starts that they would tell us that we will probably experience these pains rather than letting our minds wonder to the dark side. Even if it is from the chemo or our body healing from the surgery, I think we should be made aware of some of the common issues of chemo rather than just saying everyone is different and not give us a general list of possible pains we might experience. Hope you get a good explanation.

I get an explanation of what might happen and a printout from MacMillan about aide effects, but they can't include everything. I don't think recurrence in the liver hurts. I have that and it doesn't. More likely you've pulled a muscle. I've found that is easy to do as I'm inactive for a few days with chemo fatigue and then just reaching a teapot off a high shelf or lifting some shopping means a few days of a painful muscle. I rub in nurofen cream, but that won't work I don't think, for the muscles between the ribs as they're deeper.
