After 6 attempts by 3 different people to find a decent vein last week, I am reluctantly having a picc line inserted next Monday. Am a bit worried about having a needle in all the time, how annoying is it? Does it take long to do? I guess they will leave it in for the surgery in the middle of chemo, so that means I'll have it til Christmas.............yuk.

It doesn't take long to insert and it's not a needle but a line. You get used to it after a few days and won't actually notice it to be honest. Trust me it's easier than having cannulas fitted all the time. If you look down the posts Chris had one fitted recently and had the same fears as you do (as I know I certainly did), oh and it's not painful to be fitted more 'uncomfortable'. Hope your chemo and surgery goes well. Kathy xx
I have had the same problem as you really. Veins are crap and they struggle with the cannula almost every treatment. I'm glad you have shared this post as I am also very reluctant to get a picc line but will if I have too. I have explained to the nurses that I want as least reminders of everything that's going on as possible. Be interesting to see what others say. X
Like many things to do with this rotten disease, it's better than the alternative!
Hi - I recently had a picc line fitted as having to start 3rd line treatment and my poor veins can't hack the pace anymore! !
Was honestly okay - a little uncomfortable going in and felt a bit tender for a couple of days afterwards but now don't even realise it's there! It's covered by a waterproof dressing; you just have to be careful not to get it wet in the shower etc.
Just has to be flushed every week - other than that it's a breeze! Hope that puts your mind at rest xxx
Thanks everybody, I had it done this morning and it's fine. Like Maz says, it's a , ittle uncomfortable going in, but it seems ok now, not really noticing it tbh. It will be such a relief not to have the stabbing for veins thing every week!
