Hi Eily,I'm on a trial of part inhibator which should work like Avastin.Avastin didn't work for me.I think the criteria for the part is,you got to be BRCA positive etc.
Hi can I ask why, I have just started 1st of 12 treatments of avastin would love some feedback. Thanks
Hi all, I had Avastin along with second line chemotherapy but it's now been with withdrawn in England because in a real-world situation it didn't work as well as promised in the initial trials where the patients are very carefully selected to meet specific criteria.
Avastin works by reducing the blood flow to tumours. They need a blood supply to keep growing and dividing. PARP inhibitors work by stopping a repair mechanism work in cancer cells so they die off. PARP inhibitors do seem to be working very well and are funded in England for women who are BRCA positive but there are trials where they are being tested on women who do not have the genetic mutation but have a tendency to respond to cancer treatments as though they do.
When I was looking at second line chemotherapy I discovered I couldn't have Avastin as lived in the wrong place in Wales. I consulted a homeopath who recommended Iscador which is a herbal preparation made from Mistletoe. It is accredited with an additional six months remission. The homeopath did give me the URL to a scientific website that tests all these preparations. I could try to find out again if anyone's interested.
Iscador is listed as an NHS drug but getting it can be complicated as your GP is unlikely to be homeopathy trained. I got the homeopath to write a letter of recommendation to my GP and he prescribed it on her recommendation.
I hope you get lots of interesting answers to your question. xxx Annie
Parp Inhibitors or Olarib same drug but not sure if you have it available in the Uk . Not sure how available it is in Ireland or if it has to be a trial.
