Niraparib alternative

Hi lovely ladies

Can anyone explain the difference between Niraparib and Olaparib please? I have been on Niraparib since April last year following 2nd lot of chemo for my first recurrence. I’ve had a few issues with it but generally am tolerating it well apart from ongoing fatigue and sleeplessness.

However following some blurry vision with a sense of falling to the left with dizzy spells I’ve just had my eyes checked at the hospital. They have said there is some eye movement problems in that when I look either side or up and down my eyes are not moving correctly. The eye specialist said he thinks my vision is being affected by the Niraparib and that I need to discuss with my oncologist. He’s advised me not to drive .

I’ve just had my 6 months scan and have my appointment tomorrow to discuss results. Feeling very nervous , the old scanxiety is kicking in!! I want to know if there’s an alternative to Niraparib which I can raise for discussion hence the original question.

Many thanks in advance

Claire xx

Hi Claire, I believe you have Olaparib if you have the BRCA gene. I’m on Niraparib as I’m BRCA negative and I definitely experience blurry vision. Sally xx

Thanks for your reply that’s great information. I discussed with my oncologist this morning and she has suggested a 4 week break from Niraparib and will look into then trialling Rucaparib x

Hi. Schnauzer is right about BRCA and Olaparib. If you’re not BRCA positive maybe you can take a two week break from Niraparib and go back on a lower dose? I hope your scan is fine!!!

Thanks for your reply. My scan is ok, stable but with two nodules in the lungs to keep an eye on.

Going to take a 4 week break from Niraparib and see if there’s any improvement with side effects and then might consider Rucaparib x

Hello, maybe phoning the Ovacome Support team on freephone 0800 008 7054 about the differences would help? Also, one of their webinars is on PARP Inhibitors and this may help youtube.com/watch?v=hyLU2uk...

Do hope the break from Niraparib does the trick. Warm wishes.
