Hi lovely people I am hoping somebody can give me some help. My mum has primary peritoneal cancer it’s treated the same as ovarian she has been on niraparib for around six months. They have been working ok keeping it at bay but her scan results show two spots on the pelvic region. I was hoping that someone could help me and offer any suggestions of another oral chemo that would help. Sending best wishes to all Ali xxxxxx

Alternative to Niraparib
Hi Ali , I’ve just had similar news. I’ve been taking Rucaparib for 6 months and that seemed to keep the tumours at bay but CA 125 has risen sharply. CT scan booked ASAP. Oncologist says if one Parp doesn’t work it’s very unlikely another one will. Chemo on the cards again. I’m a bit down and I suspect your mum is too. This is my 3rd recurrence although I’ve never been NED. We’ll just have to wait and see.
All the very best to you both

Hi thanks very much for your reply I’ve seen somewhere that some people take two different parbs I will carry on researching and let you know if I find anything sorry you have to have more chemo keep your chin up xx
Ahhh thank you too Ali, that would be helpful. Not had a very good day to be honest. emotionally I mean.
Hope to hear from you soon
Lots of love and good wishes.

Morning I have found a few interesting articles there is a new drug called berzosertib which sounds promising. Also there is a company in Cambridge called oncologica which is worth a look hope your feeling a bit brighter best wishes Ali x
Good morning Ali
So sweet of you to think of me so soon. I am feeling a little better this morning. Seems so strange not taking Rucaparib. I feel sort of empty.
I’ve heard of this new drug a few months ago but thought it was still on trial. I haven’t mentioned it to the oncologist simply because I cannot pronounce it. I will look it up today and practice before I speak to him after the dreaded CT scan. I’ll also look up the Cambridge company you mentioned. I was going to make this a research day funnily enough. You’ve helped me make my mind up. Lindaura post this morning was so uplifting.
Thank you again and lots of love Angela xx
Hi how did you do on your research Ali xx
Good morning Ali,
I looked up Berzosertib and tried to take it all in. It looked very promising as you said especially as it maybe also used to treat Covid 19. Must be good strong stuff. I can’t remember if it’s in tablet form or IV. I couldn’t work out if it is still a clinical trial. I’d be willing to try anything like the majority of us. I haven’t researched the Cambridge company yet. I’ll perhaps have a look at that today. It’s so difficult to remember everything these days. My mind is full of cancer. It’s all I think of from the minute I wake until the minute I go to sleep. How do you cope emotionally Ali? I’m not doing very well at all since my last telephone appointment with the oncologist. I can’t see the point in anything now. Not being able to plan anything. Nothing to look forward to. I seem to be making destructive decisions where family and friends are concerned. I’m quite a kind, loving and generous lady but I’m becoming impossible to reason with and I don’t know how to improve. This is nothing to do with research I know but I seem to constantly trying to justify myself and get everything off my chest before anything happens to me. Researching gives me a reason to live but I can never get to the bottom of it. Until my pending CT scan I can’t positively do anything. Please tell me how you cope. Apologies for the saga but I’ve had such an awful weekend. I’m sounding really selfish and bitter but I’m quite the reverse. I’ve always put everyone first especially my little family.
I’ll close now before I send you to sleep.
Lots of love and good wishes to you

Morning I’m not surprised your feeling how you are but try and be positive. I think it was on this site sometime ago that a number of people had tried one kind of Parb inhibitor which worked for sometime but stopped, so they then tried another and it was successful and had been on it for some years so it’s hopeful that this would work for you also. When you get your results from your specialist wait to see what they recommend. I don’t know if you have ovarian cancer but I found a really knowledgeable dr called Susana Banerjee who is one of the top specialists in OC depending on my mums results if we’re not happy with what they recommend we will make an appointment to see her. Somebody I know has prostrate cancer he was only given 6 weeks and that was 11 years ago and I still see him walking his dog so chin up and wait for your results see what they say. My mum is under a general hospital, so far we have been happy with her treatment but I think it could be better to be under a specialist hospital that deals specifically in your type of cancer.
Take care Ali xx
